The US Secretary of the Treasury compared his sanctions announcement to D-Day.
Thousands of young men died on the beaches of Normandy in 1944, fighting fascism. They are not a communications prop.
---------
In 1944, on the beaches of Normandy,
thousands of young men,
barely older than me,
died within hours
to free a continent from fascism.
And this?
This is Scott Bessent,
Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.
And here is what he just said.
In the Second World War,
D-Day marked
the historic beginning
of a campaign with our allies
to target and drive
the enemy from its positions,
including those in third countries.
Today, in that same spirit,
we are launching an economic onslaught
against Iran's financial connections
around the globe.
Scott Bessent, how dare you
compare what you are doing
to the Normandy landings???
The people who were there
were HEROES,
and THEY were the ones FIGHTING fascism,
not the ones ENABLING it!
And most of them died in this fight.
And you?
You have some makeup,
a press conference, and a press release!
THEY, had 200 yards of sand
and machine guns facing them.
And I would rather not say
what I think of the "government" you are part of.
And what's more,
YOU have NEVER SERVED in the MILITARY,
and you take orders from a "president"
who SCHEMED HIS WAY OUT of the draft.
The death, and the courage
of those young men
are NOT your personal backdrop
to make yourself look good,
Scott Bessent.
They do NOT belong to you.
SHAME on you.
