Femmes italiennes du Québec /Italian Women of Quebec

Alliance Donne brings together women in Quebec who identify as being of Italian heritage and offers a platform to promote, highlight, and encourage the accomplishments and interests of such women. The Alliance strives to organize activities that offer networking and mentorship opportunities for women of Italian descent in the arts and culture, entrepreneurial, professional and academic fields, as well as establish links with other organizations and institutions that share similar interests and concerns. Furthermore, Alliance Donne aims to identify and address concerns in various professional spheres, not only within the Italian community, but also in the Quebec community at large.

Alliance Donne s’engage à organiser des activités de networking, de développement des affaires et de mentorat dans les domaines des arts et de la culture, des milieux académique, professionnel et des affaires, en établissant des liens avec d’autres organisations et institutions de même nature. De plus, Alliance Donne vise à identifier et à se prononcer sur des problématiques liées à l’avancement des femmes d’origine italienne, non seulement au sein de la communauté italienne mais dans la société québécoise en général.

Nous avons été profondément honorées d’accueillir Son Excellence Alessandro Cattaneo, ambassadeur d’Italie au Canada, le consul général d’Italie à Montréal, Enrico Pavone, ainsi qu’Andréanne Moreau, Conseillère de la ville - Responsable de la culture, du patrimoine, du design et de la langue française au MEM – Centre des mémoires montréalaises pour une visite spéciale de l’exposition Le Cucitrici : voix des couturières italiennes de Montréal.

Ce fut une belle occasion de partager les histoires, les voix et l’héritage des femmes au cœur de cette exposition, tout en mettant en lumière un chapitre important de l’histoire italo-canadienne de Montréal. 🇮🇹🇨🇦

L’exposition Le Cucitrici : voix des couturières italiennes de Montréal est présentée jusqu’au 7 juin 2027 au MEM - Centre des mémoires montréalaises.

Alliance Donne est fière d’avoir collaboré avec le MEM à la réalisation de ce projet exceptionnel et d’avoir contribué à faire entendre la voix de ces femmes qui ont façonné l’industrie du vêtement, soutenu leur famille et marqué l’histoire sociale et économique de Montréal, un point à la fois.

Venez découvrir leurs parcours, leurs sacrifices, leur solidarité et l’héritage précieux qu’elles ont transmis aux générations suivantes.

Some wonderful exhibitions are taking place in Montréal this summer be sure to take advantage of them! 🇮🇹

We are pleased to share this post from the Embassy of Italy in Canada featuring Italia è Moda, presented as part of Italian Fashion Days Around the World and hosted by the M.A.D Festival from August 17 to 23. The exhibition explores Italy’s remarkable fashion ecosystem, from renowned fashion houses to artisan workshops, celebrating the craftsmanship, creativity and innovation behind Italian style.

This story connects beautifully with Cucitrici : Voix des couturières italiennes de Montréal, an exhibition honouring the Italian immigrant women whose talent, resilience and sewing expertise helped shape Montréal’s garment industry.

From Italy’s fashion houses and artisan workshops to Montréal’s factories and home sewing rooms, these exhibitions highlight the people, skills and stories woven into Italian fashion and heritage. 🧵✂️👗

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰? More than 400 years ago, Lavinia Fontana became one of the first professional women artists in the Western world. Born in Bologna in 1552, she supported her family through her art, managed a successful painting career, raised 11 children and even painted for the Pope!

A remarkable Italian woman whose talent and determination helped pave the way for generations of women artists. 🇮🇹

🎨👑 More than four hundred years ago, in Bologna, a woman ran a professional painting studio, supported her whole family with her brush, and painted for the Pope. Her name was Lavinia Fontana, and she was one of the first professional women artists in the Western world.

Born in Bologna in 1552, Lavinia Fontana was trained by her painter father and became a sought-after portraitist of the city's noblewomen, prized for the way she caught their jewels, their fabrics and their living faces. She went on to work in Rome under papal patronage, painted large public altarpieces at a time when almost no woman was permitted to, and raised eleven children while her husband managed her workshop. Bologna, always a little ahead of its time, gave the world several pioneering women of science and art, and Lavinia was its brightest painter. Emilia-Romagna has every right to be proud.
