Virgilio Bernardino 🙏
In a busy warehouse, workers moved quickly to meet the day’s demands. Pallets were stacked high, forklifts moved through the aisles, and everyone trusted the routines they followed every day.
Among them was Virgilio Bernardino, a hardworking father, a proud Teamster, and a man who came to work expecting the same thing every worker should be able to expect:
To finish his shift and go home safely to his family.
But on August 23, the unthinkable happened.
A rack gave way, and in a single devastating moment, Virgilio’s life was taken.
What began as “just another day at work” became a tragedy that would forever change his family, his brothers and sisters in the warehouse, and his entire Union family.
Virgilio’s passing remains a painful reminder that workplace safety can never be taken for granted. Every precaution matters. Every inspection matters. Every procedure matters. Every extra second spent making sure something is safe can mean the difference between someone going home to their family, or never walking through that door again.
So when we put on our protective equipment, follow lockout/tagout procedures, inspect a rack, double-check a load, or speak up when something doesn’t look right, we aren’t simply following rules.
We are looking out for one another.
We are keeping a promise that every worker deserves to hear:
Your life matters. Your family is waiting for you. And nothing we do at work is more important than making sure you get home safely.
