🌟 The Big Spotlight! 🌟
This month, we’re shining a light on the amazing volunteers who help make the magic happen. This week we have two… first, meet Jen!
Jen is a registered nurse and children’s mental health therapist who is entering her sixth year as a Big! When she’s not working or volunteering, you’ll often find her enjoying agility and scent detection with her two wonderfully wild Border Collies.
Jen became a mentor because she wanted to experience a different side of childhood. In her work, she often supports children through some of their hardest moments. Being a Big offered a chance to share laughter, carefree adventures, and some of the activities that made her own childhood so special.
From their very first outing to Whoop-Up Days to all the memories they’ve made since, watching her Little grow has brought Jen so much joy. Her favourite part? The laughter! With her Little’s quick wit, playful sass, and unexpected comments, there’s never a shortage of reasons to smile.
Her advice to anyone thinking about becoming a Big? Be open to how much the experience can give you, too.
“You might go into mentoring thinking about all the ways you can give back or make a difference in a child's life. What you might not expect is just how much that child will enrich your own life in return.”
Thank you, Jen, for sharing your time, embracing the silliness, and making space for the everyday adventures that mean so much. What a BIG difference that makes!
You don’t need grand plans to make meaningful memories. Send us a message to learn about becoming a Big!
