As Thanksgiving approaches, we reflect with gratitude for community, connection, and the relationships that sustain us. At the same time, we recognize that Thanksgiving in Canada is rooted in colonial histories that caused profound harm to Indigenous peoples, including dispossession of land, erasure of cultures, and ongoing inequities.

At Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region, we acknowledge that gratitude cannot be separated from truth. Our commitment to reconciliation means holding space for both thankfulness and accountability; celebrating what we are grateful for while also committing to listen, learn, and act in ways that honour Indigenous rights, voices, and leadership. This Thanksgiving, we invite our community to:

▪️Reflect on the land we live on and the treaties that govern it
▪️Learn about the true history of Thanksgiving in Canada
▪️Support Indigenous-led initiatives and reconciliation efforts in our region

The EAFWR team will be at the Cambridge Public Library Community Desk every other Friday from 1–4pm on reimbursement due dates. While you're there, stop by to submit forms, ask questions, get registration help, or learn more about our programs!

On Tuesday, thanks to the organization from my team member Khaled Ibrahim, Lisa Stanley with Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region and the Desjardins Insurance program, I was able to drop off $500 worth of treats and craft supplies to Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region to support an organization that makes such a positive difference in the lives of so many, here in Waterloo Region. Lisa and Kim Sproul (pictured with me) were also kind enough to give me a tour and teach me about some of their amazing programs. The drop-off will be used towards one of those programs, the Caregiver Connections Groups. Keep up the fantastic work Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region!

We're thrilled that three members of the team at Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region are once again participating on the Victorious Secrets hockey team at the Hockey Helps the Homeless tournament at RIM Park! 🏒

All funds raised at the tournament on October 30, 2026 will be granted to six local beneficiaries: oneROOF Youth Services, House of Friendship, YWCA KW, Starling Children's Mental Health, Cambridge Shelter Corporation - The Bridges, and The Working Centre.
