August 9 marks International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, a day established by the United Nations.

Today, we recognize and celebrate the strength, knowledge, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples and communities. Today is an opportunity to reflect, learn, and honour the voices, histories, and traditions that continue to enrich our communities.

For generations, Indigenous Peoples have developed and sustained knowledge systems that reflect their values, cultures and ways of life. These living knowledge systems connect territory, spirituality, community and care, and continue to support the well-being of Indigenous Peoples today.

: Did you know? Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region was created in 1981 after a group of parents sat around a kitchen table, dreaming of a more inclusive life for their children with disabilities. This group received funding for a Family Coordinator and moved to its first official office on Weber St. in Waterloo.

Weekend Social Club is an opportunity for people aged 18+ to hang out with old friends and meet new people with similar interests once a month out in the community. Locations vary across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
