With the start of a new school year many young people, parents and teachers might be feeling anxious. Laoshi Ruby shared with us a verse to help us when we are feeling stressed.

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This verse is reminding us that in every situation we find ourselves in, whatever we have upcoming, we should pray and give our worries to God to allow the peace that he has for us to guard our hearts and minds from things that aren’t from Him, like worry or anxiety.

In those times we need to learn to put our trust in Him. This isn’t always easy to do but we can learn with lots of practice! She shared how at a tournament she was feeling nervous before competing and performing in front of so many people and judges. Before going up she prayed for peace and focus and God helped her through it! She ended up doing very well, earning a gold medal with a perfect score from the judges! By praying and giving her worries to God, God helped her by giving her peace to perform what she had practiced well.

We can know that He is with us, He has a plan, that He can help us through, we just need to ask. We wish everyone a good start to the school year!

Laoshi Dave started at Kung-Fu for Christ in 2019 and has earned his green belt. He has trained and dabbled in a variety of other martial arts since he was a child, and finally settled on studying Shaolin Kung-Fu. Laoshi Dave loves teaching both youth and adults, and helping students excel in their martial arts journey. When not training in Kung-Fu he enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons and making custom dice. His favourite Bible verse is: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" - Psalm 27:1

Thanks for all you do!

"But in your case, it's like running a marathon when your shoelace is untied. You have to stop to tie it so you don't trip and hurt yourself.”- Sifu Alan

Sifu Alan said this to a student who had an injury and needed to modify his training to accommodate it to prevent further harm. We want all of our students to push themselves, while also recognizing that sometimes, exercises need to be modified according to personal limitations or injuries. Pushing through to train with an injury can worsen the damage and result in a slower recovery.

This can also serve as a great reminder not to push ourselves past our limits in life. We all need sleep. We all need time to ourselves to recover from the busyness and demands of daily life. Sometimes, that means we need to
take a day off, whether a sick day or a “Mental Health Day”. It’s important to be able to recognize and respect our limits, giving ourselves the time we need to rest and recuperate before it becomes a more
serious problem.

Jr. Laoshi Hailee has been training for 12 years and has earned her blue stripe. She has been an instructor for 8 years and loves to teach the kids great kicking techniques! We appreciate her commitment to training, helping out at the welcome desk, teaching kids classes and helping to lead the Bible study into the evenings after very early morning work shifts! We will miss her as she returns to school this fall! Thank you for all you do Hailee!
