What a beautiful picture of the Church in action.

A huge thank you to everyone from Forward Church Cambridge Forward Church Kitchener who participated in the Big Serve on May 29th and 30th. Whether you cooked meals, packed and sorted food, delivered meals across the region, or helped organize the day, your time, energy, and generosity made a real difference for local families.

Together, you prepared and delivered meals, sorted and packed our freezer inventory, and helped fill the freezers of 11 families throughout Waterloo Region and Cambridge. Because of your willingness to serve, parents facing difficult circumstances were reminded that they are not alone, and children had nutritious meals waiting for them during a challenging season.

One of the most beautiful things about days like these is the reminder that every act of kindness matters. Not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something. A few hours of your time, a meal prepared with care, a delivery made with a smile, or a willingness to lend a hand can have a lasting impact on a family in crisis.

Your investment did not go unnoticed. It brought practical support, encouragement, dignity, and hope to families who needed it most.

Thank you, Forward Church, for living out your mission to Love God, Love Others, Serve the World. It was a joy to see the Church out in full force, serving our neighbours with compassion and generosity.

There is a growing need in our community that we simply cannot meet alone.

More and more of the referrals coming to Safe Families are for young children who are not yet in school or full time daycare. Often these are moms walking through medical crises, hospitalization, domestic violence, overwhelming isolation, or seasons where they simply do not have safe support around them.

And honestly, one of the biggest reasons we sometimes cannot say yes is because we do not have enough Host Families where someone is home during the day.

Maybe when you hear “Host Family” you picture needing a perfect home or a perfectly organized life. But that really is not what this is about.

Sometimes it looks like a child tagging along on errands, helping make cookies, playing in the backyard, joining story time on the couch, or simply being welcomed into the normal rhythm of family life for a season.

For some people, that season of life looks like raising children at home.
For others, it looks like empty nesters becoming almost like grandparents to a child who needs extra care and stability for a little while.

The beautiful thing is that there is no single picture of what hospitality and compassion are supposed to look like.

Just ordinary people making room for others.

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

For many families, there isn’t a safety net—no one to call, no place to turn. That’s where community becomes a lifeline. A supportive community steps in with open hands and open hearts. Small but significant acts of care can bring stability in chaos, hope in uncertainty, and strength when it feels like there’s none left.

Today we’re celebrating something truly special, our INCREDIBLE VOLUNTEERS!!

You are the heart of Safe Families here in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge. Because of you, families in crisis find support, children experience safety, and parents are met with compassion instead of isolation. You show up with open hands and willing hearts, offering practical help, friendship, and hope when it’s needed most.

Quite simply, we could not do this work without you.

Every meal delivered, every ride given, every listening ear, every prayer, it all matters more than words can say. You are living examples of love in action, and the impact you’re making is changing lives in ways we may never fully see this side of heaven.

We are so grateful for each and every one of you, and we are excited for all that is still to come as we continue this mission together.
