Keeping children safe and families together. Many families are experiencing difficulties such as financial problems, homelessness and unemployment. And due to migration and changes in society many of these families find themselves with no one to turn to for support. This is where Safe Families can help – We have Host Families who provide a loving sanctuary where parents can safely place their chil

dren in times of crisis allowing them time to get back on their feet. Other volunteers extend the community safety net for these families by connecting them to resources and other supports.

Why does our Online Auction matter so much?

Our annual Online Auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and every bid helps make it possible for Safe Families Kitchener Waterloo & Cambridge to say “yes” when a local family reaches out for help.

Last year, our auction raised more than **$21,000** to help us surround families facing crisis with caring volunteers and practical support—helping parents through difficult seasons while keeping children safe and families together.

This year, we’re hoping to make an even bigger impact.

Our auction runs September 9–16, and we have some great donations coming in from local businesses, organizations and individuals who believe in the work happening right here in our community.

Soon we’ll start showing you what you can bid on. For now, save the dates, tell a friend, and get ready to bid for families!

Hi Safe Families friends. Luna here.

I thought I should probably stop by because apparently some of you have been missing out on a rather eventful summer.

Mom and I are taking on a 300 km Tails & Trails Challenge for Safe Families, and so far I've been camping, hiking some pretty great trails, swimming every chance I get, attempting to call for help from a phone booth, wearing a shirt that makes complete strangers stop and talk to me, and surviving a haircut that I still don't think was necessary.

I've also learned that this 300 km challenge isn't just an excuse for Mom to take me on adventures. We're walking for the 300,000 children across Canada who are at risk of abuse or neglect each year and raising money to help Safe Families support families right here in KW and Cambridge.

I've been sharing all the details of my summer over on Mom's page, including a few things she might prefer I didn't tell you about.

So if you'd like to follow along, come on over and see what I've been up to. There are still plenty of kilometres to walk and, based on what I've seen Mom packing lately, I'm slightly concerned there may be more stories to come.

Luna is walking 300 km this summer in support of Safe Families, and she's been sharing every adventure along the way. So far there have been hiking trails, camping trips, dog beaches, bears, a water snake, hotdogs, a few unfortunate encounters with cats and, most recently, a very questionable campsite haircut.

There have been bears, hotdogs, questionable travel accommodations, a new 300 km shirt, camping gear that finally led to actual camping, and more than one disappointing misunderstanding about the meaning of the word “picnic.”

One of my favourite things about Safe Families is that there is no "perfect volunteer."

Some people have a lot of time. Some have very little.

Some open their homes. Some deliver meals. Some send encouraging texts, help with transportation, or simply sit and have coffee with a parent who needs support.

It all matters.

We often hear people say, "I don't think I have enough to offer."

The truth is, sometimes the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference.
