Assalāmu ʿalaykum,

Respected brothers and sisters, honoured elders, and dear friends of our community — Allah, the Most High, reminds us of a truth no one escapes:

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ

“Every soul shall taste death.” — Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, 3:185

There is a need in our community that most of us never think about — until the day it arrives at our own door. When a Muslim passes away in Kingston, we have no facility of our own in which to perform ghusl and prepare the deceased for burial. Families are left with no choice but to turn to a commercial funeral home, at a cost of roughly $6,000 to $7,000 for a single janāzah, before any other expense is counted. That figure lands on a family at the worst moment of their lives — while they grieve, and while they rush to bury their loved one within a day, as our dīn requires. Some can carry it. Many cannot. No family among us should have to weigh the cost of a burial against the dignity their loved one deserves.

It is extremely important to prioritize such charitable donations, and the best charity begins at home. You can certainly contribute to as many charities as you want, but if our local matters of utmost importance remain unattended and unaddressed, then making any charitable contributions for causes that are beyond these familial and communal needs would be a futile exercise; not only would it carry no relevance to people who need immediate help, it would also be of lesser significance from the divine perspective.

What Your Donation Will Build:

The Islamic Society of Kingston is raising funds to establish a proper ghusl and janāzah facility at our masjid — a dedicated, respectful space where our own community can wash, shroud and pray over our dead according to the Sunnah, cared for by our own hands rather than by strangers.
Once it is built, it serves every member of this community, on the day each of us departs from this dunyā. No government grant or outside benefactor will fund this. Local Pakistani and Muslim families in Kingston are the only source. If we do not build it, no one will.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that when a person dies, their deeds come to an end except three — and the first of them is a ṣadaqah jāriyah — a charity whose benefit continues. A facility that will serve the burial of Muslims in this city for generations is exactly that: a reward still returning to you long after your own janāzah has been prayed.

Fundraising Dinner:

Saturday, 26 September 2026 at DoubleTree by Hilton, 1550 Princess Street, Kingston, Ontario

Please come and bring your family. Give as generously as Allah has enabled you — a large gift, a small gift, a monthly pledge, or a contribution in the name of a loved one who has already passed. If you cannot attend, you can still give: at the masjid or by e-transfer. No gift is too small, and none of it is lost with Allah.
