A Wonderful Wildlife Walk!

Join Cataraqui Conservation education staff and focus on wildlife tracking using basic tracking tools such as rules, ID guides, magnifiers and more.

Who knows what signs, scats and tracks we will discover. Nature time in with others is always a wonderful way to get out in the colder weather.

Did you know … studies have shown that as the humidity drops in autumn, people can experience subtle mood shifts. People in high-humidity environments were slightly more inclined to report high or very high levels of distress than their peers.

Cooler air with lower humidity is linked to a small increase in overall happiness, partly because it makes outdoor activities more comfortable.

It will take place Friday, Oct. 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area, just north of Highway 401 in Kingston.

What should you do if your well runs dry?
If you're experiencing water shortages from your well, there are a few important steps you can take:

1. Reduce non-essential water use. This will help stretch your available supply while assessing the situation.

2. Your well record can provide important information about your well's depth, construction, and age. Check out the Ontario Well Records site. For missing records or questions, contact the Well Help Desk (1-888-396-WELL (9355). Additionally, a licensed contractor can provide support, assess your well and direct you on next steps.

3. Temporary storage tanks can provide a reliable water supply while your well recovers or longer-term options are explored.

Every well is different, and the cause of a dry well can vary. Taking these steps can help you respond safely and effectively while protecting your water supply.

Nature Wellness Retreat Happening in November

Join Cataraqui Conservation Senior Educator, registered Forest Therapy Guide and certified Qi Gong and Yoga Instructor, Stana Luxford Oddie for a nature wellness retreat on Friday. Nov. 20, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area in Kingston.
Participants will begin the morning with some gentle mindful movements that incorporate Qi Gong and Yoga to wake up the body, mind and spirit.

Afterwards, Stana will guide the group on a sensory and immersive Forest Therapy Walk. Forest Therapy is a mindful, healing and connective practice inspired by the Japanese practice of 'Shinrin-Yoku' which translates into 'forest bathing' (don’t worry, you won’t need a towel).

Spending time in nature not only strengthens human immune response and reduces stress, but also make us more creative, mindful, and content in our lives. The beauty of Forest Therapy is that it connects humans and nature, so that both benefit from a renewed relationship. We will complete our time with tea and sharing.

Foundation Hike Challenge Ends This Saturday!

Nature lovers and those seeking a little fun with their fall hikes have until Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, to participate in the Cataraqui Conservation Foundation’s Hike Challenge, which can be completed at four Cataraqui Conservation owned properties.

1. Lemoine Point Conservation Area
2. Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area
3. Section of the Cataraqui Trail
4. Marble Rock Conservation Area

Hike the highlighted trail at each conservation area, or a minimum three out of four, and look for the special coloured Cataraqui Conservation Foundation logo signs. Take a photo (selfie) with each of the signs to complete the challenge and upload your photos to the Hike Challenge photo page.
