The Edge Program - Annapolis Valley

As Season 8 wraps up in Windsor, I spent some time reflecting with the youth. What makes EDGE different? What did they take away from the program? Was it the skills, the hands-on experience, the way we do things—or something else? What would they tell their friends?

The same answer kept popping up: COMMUNITY.

There’s something really special about the town of Windsor Nova Scotia. Being right in the centre of this town helps us become part of it, and this town has welcomed our youth with open arms. At EDGE Windsor, we spend a lot of time out in our community, meeting and working alongside the people we see every day. People know us by name. We Volunteer. We start to feel like we Belong.

Erika at Wild Nest. Beaver and Bambi at Doppleganger. Karen at WTBA. Struan at Mermaid Theatre. Kathy, Judy, Josh and Barb at Makerspace. Mitch at MTO. Sarah at Studio 22. The entire staff at Gerrish & Gray. Wendy at Reader’s Haven. Alice at the Community Centre. Chance, who welcomes us at the door. Melinda, Shyla, Jamie and Pam, who cheer us on every day at NS Works. Dave at CBDC. Karen at the food bank. The Posse project. The cat lady at Our Mother’s Keeper. In the Bin. Madison Clover. Heck, even the MLA shows up!

This whole dang town is behind us. Everywhere we go, our youth are welcomed and treated as part of this beautiful community.

Any building can host a program. I’m so grateful that ours gets to be right in the heart of this magical town.

EDGE Windsor had a busy week of networking at job fairs and volunteering in the community. We’re so grateful to be part of a town that continues to show up for our youth.

Special thanks to D. Bedford Forestry, the Windsor Food Bank, and Jamie Patterson at NS Works for supporting our youth.

Windsor EDGE had such a great day at the Hants County Exhibition! We wore the tie-dye shirts we made with Splash Tie-Dye, connected with local employers, and met lots of people in our community—including some potential future EDGE participants. We had a great time being out together and enjoying the Exhibition. Hants County proud! 🎡💙

We spent another great day volunteering at the Kirchen in Canning with Sarah and Alyssa from Farm to Feast!

On the menu was taco bowls and loaded potato soup - with every meal helping families in need. ❤️

It was another busy week at Windsor EDGE!

Youth received First Aid training from BraveHeart first aid, connected with local business owners, entrepreneurs and artists Beaver and Pierre, met Dave from the CBDC, and participated in Windsor Wednesdays with Judy from The Portal. It was an awesome week of learning, creativity and community connection!

Windsor EDGE on employment is now accepting applications for Season 9 for youth ages 18–26—and spaces are filling quickly!

This week at EDGE on Employment Windsor brought big conversations, colourful shirts, and a few new farm friends!

We explored soft and hard skills, time management, and how to handle those tricky workplace conversations—including speaking up and advocating for what we need. Stepping outside our comfort zones looked different for everyone, with lots of opportunities to give something new a try.

The amazing Splash Tie Dye helped us turn plain shirts into wearable art, and Dragonfly Therapeutic Farm gave us time to connect with animals, enjoy the outdoors, and slow things down.

Building skills, finding our voices, and getting a little colour on our hands. That’s an EDGE kind of week!
