Windsor Edge participants experienced a dynamic week of hands-on learning and professional growth, marked by a volunteer day at the Windsor food bank and comprehensive driver's training with the amazing Marshall Driver Training. To increase employability in rural Nova Scotia, it's beneficial to accumulate valuable work experience through volunteering and hands-on learning, as well as obtaining a driver's license. If you're between 18 and 26, don't miss the chance to be part of our next cohort – contact [email protected] for more information.

As part of the Windsor Edge on Employment job shadow /co-op program, youth spent their morning at the magical world of the Mermaid Theatre, learning about career paths in the arts and expanding their knowledge of potential opportunities.
There is a world of possibility out there for youth who are willing to explore.

The Edge on Employment experience in Windsor focuses on providing youth with practical hands on experience, exploring job opportunities that may not be encountered in school. By exploring real-world jobs and opportunities in their community, inquiring about career paths, required courses, and community involvement, they develop a sense of belonging. We are grateful for the contributions of Beaver and Bambi, two tattoo artists and business owners in Windsor, who are making our community outstanding. Thank you for offering a one day job shadow opportunity and inspiring our youth.

Effective employment maintenance relies heavily on the ability to cook on a budget and prepare one's own meals. The youth of Windsor Edge were challenged to create a meal for 7 people, with a budget of $20. By shopping at multiple stores to compare prices, the group managed to feed everyone. This exercise helped develop essential employment skills, including teamwork, budgeting, motivation, and confidence. Everyone involved has reason to be proud. A surprise visit from special guest Dora Coté from MasterChef Canada was a notable bonus.
