We wanted to share that the Town of Kentville has released a media statement today confirming that they will not be renewing funding for Downtown Kentville (KDCL) beyond March 31, 2026.

We are disappointed with this decision.

Our Board will be convening to discuss next steps, and we will share further updates in the coming days.

We understand this news may bring up a range of emotions and questions. At this time, we ask that any concerns or questions be directed to the Town.

Warmly,
The Downtown Kentville Board of Directors & Staff

MEDIA RELEASE
Town of Kentville Announces Update to Business Support Funding

March 25, 2026 — Kentville, NS — In the interest of transparency, Town of Kentville is advising the public that Town Council has made the decision to not enter into a new contract with Kentville Development Corporation Limited (KDCL).

As of March 31, 2026, the Town will not be renewing its contract with KDCL. Since a new contract is not being entered into, no decision by Council in either a public meeting or a closed session is required. Council provided formal written notice to KDCL this morning. A levy collected to support economic development’s activities may continue to be collected and if so, will instead be directed toward business support initiatives for all businesses in Kentville, including accessibility grants.

The Town acknowledges that recent months have been challenging for those involved, including the business community and residents. Council is grateful for the work of KDCL’s employees, volunteers, and board members, and recognizes their contributions to Kentville’s downtown business community over many years.

Town Council remains committed to working with Kentville’s vibrant business community and to supporting the growth of a strong and thriving local economy. Further details regarding the Town’s economic development plans and next steps will be shared in the near future.

Businesses and residents are reminded that they may contact Town Council by phone, email, or in person. Council contact information is available on the Town of Kentville website at: https://kentville.ca/town-hall/council-committees

This month has been really tough.

On February 23, we gave our verbal presentation to Council regarding the letter they sent us on January 8th, indicating that our funding would be receiving a 68% reduction next year. (April 1)

Council still has not made a final decision regarding our funding, and our organization is essentially on hold until we receive further direction.

While we wait, here’s a sneak peek from the business photoshoot we held on March 11.

There are so many incredible people that make this town great, and here are just a few of them. (Thank you to everyone who gave of their time to participate in these shoots.)

YOU are the reason we do what we do. ❤️

Update: 📸 MODEL CALL - FULL📸

Kentville neighbours — this one’s for you.

We’re excited to have Samson Photography back to photograph downtown businesses on Wednesday, March 11 (1–4PM)…

and we want PEOPLE in the pictures!

We want to show real life people in our shops, cafés, and spaces, the way downtown actually feels.

We’re looking for people of all ages, sizes, and abilities to be part of the downtown experience: look like you’re shopping, dining, or chatting with a business owner, etc. (We’ll help guide you.)

CONSIDERATIONS:

⌚️ You won’t need to be there for the full three hours. We’ll schedule you within that window

📋 You’ll get to choose from a list of participating businesses for where you’ll be

📷 You can order prints from the photographer if you’d like

✅ By participating, you’re giving Downtown Kentville permission to share the photos on our social channels and marketing materials

Spots are limited based on participating businesses.

THANK YOU FOR SIGNING UP! The form is now closed for new entries.

Let’s make downtown feel as vibrant in photos as it does in real life. 💙

Amos & Jaci Gillespie, Owners of Coffee Co.

What started as a love for great coffee has grown into a downtown gathering place where conversations flow just as freely as the espresso. At Wheelhouse Coffee Co., you’ll find expertly crafted drinks made with beans roasted in-house, locally inspired flavours, and a space that feels cozy and also buzzing with community, all at the same time.

Whether you’re meeting a friend, diving into a work session, or just stopping in for your daily caffeine fix, Wheelhouse is the kind of place where you’re sure to be greeted with a smile, and probably even by name.

Next time you’re downtown, swing by for your favourite brew and stay awhile.

📍 Located at 2 Webster St. (Corner of Bridge)
🕒 Open Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm & Saturday, 9am–4pm
