This , we're highlighting the development of the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) in 1991.

EFPs help farm businesses assess and improve environmental practices in up to 23 areas on their farm. The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association delivers the program locally.

The farm community developed the EFP program under the former Ontario Farm Environmental Coalition, led by:

Ontario Federation of Agriculture
Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario
Farm & Food Care Ontario

In 1993, the first EFPs were completed in Ontario. Since then, more than 45,000 Ontario farm families have completed an Environmental Farm Plan, resulting in millions of dollars in environmental improvements on farms across the province.

Strengthening agricultural connections across borders!

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) was pleased to welcome delegates from Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region to our head office for a meaningful exchange of ideas with OFA Vice Presidents Sara Wood and Ethan Wallace.

Conversations covered a range of topics, with delegates expressing particular interest in OFA’s Farmer Wellness Initiative and the potential for developing a similar program to support farmers in their region. Discussions also explored Ontario’s food system, including how grocery prices are structured and the factors influencing costs for consumers.

Thank you to the Italian delegation for the thoughtful discussions and valuable exchange of perspectives. We look forward to continuing the conversation and building connections that benefit agriculture in both regions.

🚨Is your lunch hour free tomorrow? Join OFA and the Ontario Phragmites Action (OPA) Program for an informative lunch-and-learn session on invasive Phragmites.

Invasive Phragmites aggressively invades agricultural drains, road ditches, and farm edges, causing economic losses through reduced crop yields, impeded drainage, and rapid water table depletion.

This free webinar will outline OPA's coordinated, landscape-scale management and how OPA is driving change to reduce Phragmites' impacts on the agricultural landscape.

🚨 Cybersecurity threats can affect farm businesses, too.

From phishing messages to unauthorized access to connected equipment, cyber threats can put farm data, finances and operations at risk.

This Cybersecurity Month, take a few extra precautions:

✅ Don’t click unverified links in emails or text messages.
✅ Avoid public Wi-Fi when accessing on-farm systems remotely. Use a VPN or cellular data instead.
✅ Be cautious of unsolicited callers requesting sensitive business or personal information.
✅ Know which devices and systems are connected to your farm network and who to contact if something goes wrong.

A few simple steps can help strengthen your farm’s cybersecurity.

🚜During busy planting and harvest seasons, a little extra care can go a long way toward keeping our roads safe. Mud or manure tracked onto the road can create hazards for fellow travellers, so be sure to have a plan to clean it up.

Keeping roads clear helps protect everyone and can also help avoid potential liability or municipal clean-up costs if debris contributes to an accident.

Let’s all do our part to ensure everyone gets home safely.
