Wild Ontario

Wild Ontario Providing fun, live-animal education programs about nature, conservation, and science! Most importantly though, our presentations and displays are fun!

Wild Ontario is a live-animal, environmental outreach program based at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. Using a team of non-releasable birds of prey and enthusiastic staff and volunteers, we travel the province providing quality educational programs and displays for all ages and demographics. We visit schools, community groups, camps, festivals, scouts, guides and numerous other organi

zations with our animal ambassadors. Our programs cover concepts relating to biodiversity, biology, ecology, conservation and stewardship. We love what we do, and we want to share that passion with you! Whatever your organization or event, we are always excited to work with you to create a program that suits your needs perfectly. Visit our website for more information, or drop us a line with your questions!

We’re so excited to be doing 5 days of free programming next week for UGDSB schools, all thanks to TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.

We’re even more excited that the classes get to use our brand new Vortex binoculars during their visit to The Arboretum, University of Guelph. So excited we just HAD to take a break in our work day to go birding… I mean uh… to test that each pair works of course…! 👀🐦

On a recent walk, Mowat's trainer was trying to show him the spring ephemerals popping up in The Arboretum, but he was too distracted by all the wonderful warblers flitting around in the tree tops.

If you're like Mo and also can't get enough of spring migrants, come celebrate with us at the annual Spring Bird Festival. Bird lovers and nature enthusiasts will be flocked together this Saturday May 23rd at Colonel Samuel Smith Park from 10am-2pm.

Our birds are looking forward to meeting you and teaching you all about Ontario's amazing raptors! See you there!

We had a blast last week at Akinomaagayegaamikoong at Island Lake Conservation Area! We introduced our team of non-releasable raptors to 10 Upper Grand District School Board classes, and found out who their favourite is...

Our Eastern Screech-owl, Newton, came in first place! He was closely followed by Atwood the Northern Saw-whet Owl and Mowat the Barred Owl. Don't worry, our hawks and falcons had some die-hard fans, too! 🦉🏆

A big thank you to Upper Grand District School Board for inviting us back again this year to help students build meaningful connections with nature!

We’re excited to be back at Akinomaagayegaamikoong at Island Lake Conservation Area for a week full of teaching!

We’ll be hanging out with 10 Upper Grand District School Board classes this week and introducing them to our team of non-releasable raptors. We will also be taking a vote to find out who their favourite bird is… who do you think will win? 👀

Happy National Volunteer Week!

As this week comes to an end, we want to show our appreciation to our student volunteers. We asked some of them what their favourite part of volunteering with us was - it’s safe to say that this program means as much to them as they mean to us!

Wild Ontario has two full-time staff, and otherwise runs entirely on forty University of Guelph student volunteers! Their passion and commitment is clear in everything they do within our program.

With their help, Wild Ontario is continuously growing and changing for the better. Their dedication helps us to encourage those sparks of meaningful, positive changes in the people and communities we talk to during our programs. Our goal is to make a lasting difference everywhere we go, and they do an amazing job at it!

We are so incredibly grateful for each and every one of our student volunteers, and thank you all for everything you do.

Happy Earth Day!! 🌎

Earth Day represents everything that we stand for here at Wild Ontario. We aim to educate people about sustainability, conservation, and how to help out local wildlife!

Whether you're supporting local parks and conservation authorities, choosing more eco-friendly lifestyle choices, or simply sharing your love of nature with the people around you - you're making a difference! We appreciate everyone who does the little (and big) things to help out our planet and the species living here.
