Today, we remember the thousands of Ukrainians and other Europeans who were interned in Canada during the First World War and the years that followed. Between 1914 and 1920, people were imprisoned in internment camps simply because of their origins.

On Saturday, October 24, the Ukrainian Students’ Society attended the National Internment Commemoration Day service to honour those affected and remember this important part of Ukrainian Canadian history.

We are proud to recognize our executive member, Olena Savostenko, who served as one of the Masters of Ceremonies for the event.

Remembering this history helps ensure that the experiences of those who were interned are not forgotten.

Getting the biggest number of people to attend USS events in 2026–2027!
