Five more emPOWER Cars are one step closer to getting into the hands of kids who need them.

A huge thank you to the team at FortisAlberta in Sherwood Park for volunteering their time, energy, and skills to build these cars for local children and families.

A special thank you to our friends at NAC Management for sponsoring the Kids Included Family Festival this past weekend in Desrochers Villages. 💛

Community support like this means so much to us. It helps create opportunities for children and families to connect, build relationships, and simply enjoy time together in an inclusive and welcoming environment. We are incredibly grateful.

A truly accessible Canada is one where everyone can participate, contribute, connect, and belong.

This year’s National AccessAbility Week theme, “Building a Strong, Accessible Canada,” is a reminder that inclusion takes all of us. Communities are stronger when people with disabilities are meaningfully included in schools, workplaces, recreation, and everyday life.

At Kids Included, we see every day how accessibility and inclusion open doors for children and families. Small changes, thoughtful design, and inclusive attitudes can make a life-changing difference.

When we build spaces where everyone belongs, everybody benefits.

What a day. ☀️

Yesterday, families from across the Kids Included community came together in Desrochers for our annual Family Festival, and it was tons of fun!

From picnic lunches, face painting, and a petting zoo to lawn games, circus performers, agility dogs, a fire truck, and so much more, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Most importantly, it was an opportunity for families to connect, build community, and celebrate together.

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsor, , for helping make this special day possible. We are so grateful for your support in creating inclusive opportunities for children and families.

We’re already looking forward to next year.

Accessibility is about so much more than ramps, elevators, and automatic doors.

True inclusion also means access to communication, emotional supports, sensory-friendly spaces, adaptive play, supportive relationships, and environments where children feel safe, understood, and valued for who they are.

When we think broadly about accessibility, we create communities where more children and families can participate fully, connect meaningfully, and truly belong.

So tell us: what does inclusivity mean to you?

Each year, thousands of Alberta families apply for FSCD funding through the Family Support for Children with Disabilities program to access services and supports for their children.

Many families and service providers have shared concerns about growing waitlists and delays in accessing support. CBC News is looking to better understand the real impact this is having on children and families across Alberta.

If your family has experience navigating the FSCD program, we encourage you to share your story through the survey linked below and help amplify the experiences of families in our community.

This is why we do it. 💛

Last week was emPOWER Car pickup day, and getting to see the joy on the faces of these brothers as they explored and played together in their cars was such a powerful reminder of what inclusion can look like in action.

These moments matter. Access to play, independence, movement, and connection should be possible for every child.

A huge thank you to all of our incredible builder teams, partners, and volunteers who helped bring these cars to life. And we’re not done yet... more builds are happening over the next couple of weeks, with even more kids and families to come.
