Nearly a month later, we’re still reflecting on the incredible women, inspiring stories, and meaningful connections celebrated at the 2026 Women of Distinction Awards. 💜

Thank you to our award recipients for the impact you make in our community each day, and to our sponsors, partners, volunteers, supporters, and guests for helping make this special event possible.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating the women who continue to lead, inspire, and create lasting change across Edmonton.

Here’s a look back at an unforgettable afternoon—and we look forward to seeing your faces again next year.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Amanda Vella — a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and an extraordinary leader whose impact on YWCA Edmonton and our community will not be forgotten.

Amanda served YWCA Edmonton from 2009 to 2013 as a dedicated Board member, including in the roles of President, Treasurer, and Secretary, before continuing her leadership with YWCA Canada from 2013 to 2015. She was also a passionate volunteer and ambassador whose generosity, insight, and commitment helped strengthen our organization and the communities we serve.

Amanda represented YWCA Edmonton on the global stage, including at the YWCA World Council & International Women’s Summit in Zurich and as part of the YWCA Canada delegation to the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations.

Amanda led with intelligence, compassion, humility, and care. She believed deeply in community and in creating opportunities for others, and her leadership left a lasting mark on those fortunate enough to know and work alongside her.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Amanda’s family, loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. We are deeply grateful for her service, leadership, and friendship. She will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered.

For generations, Camp Yowochas has been part of summers growing up.

Grandparents went to camp here. Parents returned years later with stories of campfires, friendships, and time spent outdoors. Now, a new generation gets to experience it for themselves.

Camp Yowochas is where confidence grows, friendships form, and summer memories begin.

Summer camp registration is open — book your child’s summer adventure at Camp Yowochas through the link https://ywcayowochas.org/register/ ☀️🌲

For some families, summer camp is simply out of reach — but together, we can help change that. ✨

Through our Aim for Adventure campaign, we’re supporting the Campership Subsidy Fund to help more deserving kids experience the magic of Camp Yowochas.

Summer at Camp Yowochas gives children the chance to:
• Try new experiences and grow their independence
• Build meaningful friendships and a sense of belonging
• Explore the outdoors and stay active
• Develop important life skills like teamwork and problem-solving
• Enjoy unplugged, real-world experiences away from screens

Give the gift of adventure, confidence, connection, and lifelong memories. Donate now at — https://ywcaofedmonton.org/donate-to-yowochas/

This May, we welcomed our incredible Spring staff back to Camp Yowochas as they began training and preparations for an unforgettable summer ahead. ☀️

This year, our team will help create core memories and unforgettable camp experiences for nearly 1,000 kids, and for many of our staff, Camp Yowochas is a place they return to year after year.

One of the best camp traditions? Every staff member is given a unique camp name… and we can’t wait to hear this year’s lineup.

Summer at camp is just around the corner. Register your kids for Camp Yowochas today — link here: https://ywcayowochas.org/register/
