Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Cowichan Sportsplex Field House this Thursday, March 5th between 6pm and 8pm for the Pump Track Open House ๐ดโโ๏ธ
We'd like to invite the community of North Cowichan to stop by the Cowichan Sportsplex new fieldhouse on Thursday March 5th, 6-8PM, to chat about a very exciting project. The back gravel parking lot of the Cowichan Sportsplex is the proposed location for a pump track in North Cowichan.
We've been working hard to get this idea off the ground for a while now, and with the support from the Cowichan Sportsplex we're ready to get the community involved! We're looking for feedback, support, sponsors and partners. If you're just curious about what this might look like or want to offer a thumbs up, we'd love to see you!
โถ๏ธBackground:
The Cowichan Valley has firmly established itself as a mecca for cycling and outdoor recreation. However, there is a missing piece; a pump track. A pump track is an asphalt circuit full of rollers, banked corners and features designed to build the skills of cyclists on a wide variety of bike types. Although pump tracks are purpose-built for bikes, they can be used by a variety of wheeled vehicles including skateboards and scooters.
Notable pump tracks on Vancouver Island include the Stevie Smith Bike Park in Beban Park Nanaimo, Topaz Park in Victoria and the Jordie Lunn Bike Park in Langford. A visit to any of these pump tracks will demonstrate the incredibly diverse demographic that makes use of them. Parents supervising their toddlers on run bikes; children and teenagers that biked straight from school to the pump track; people of all walks of life learning and honing skills; coaching outfits and riding clubs; and pro-level riders pushing their limits. A pump track is a unique urban playground where companionship and skill building unite across all ages and abilities.
