BGC Preston Youth Leaders Exploring Careers! 💼

On Wednesday, youth from BGC Preston's Fruits of Our Labour Program and RISE Jr. Leadership Program had the incredible opportunity to visit McInnes Cooper and learn more about careers in the legal field.

Throughout the visit, participants explored the pathways, challenges, educational requirements, and day-to-day realities of becoming a lawyer or paralegal. They heard from nine lawyers and paralegals, an articled clerk, and an HR professional, each sharing their unique journey and experience working in the legal profession.

The visit also included a delicious lunch prepared by our Fruits of Our Labour youth, featuring sweet and sour meatballs, veggie rice, and chickpea curry.

Most importantly, our youth left with valuable knowledge, meaningful connections, and plenty of questions answered. For some, the experience sparked a new aspiration to pursue a career in law one day!

Fruits of Our Labour: Harvesting Change with Thomas Family Farm 🌱

For the past four years, Terry and Angela Thomas have not only opened up their farm, but also their home to the Fruits of Our Labour program as an incredible community stakeholder. They have provided meaningful hands-on learning experiences that connected our youth to local agriculture, food, and unlocked a deeper appreciation for where food comes from and the work that goes into growing it.

Each year, our participants have had the opportunity to explore the farm, meet the animals, plant seeds for future harvests, and learn firsthand about the connection between food, community, and hard work. Of course, one of the highlights was always the exciting 4-wheeler cart rides with Mr. Terry, creating memories our youth will never forget.

This year we are so grateful as we got to spend what was our last year with Mr. Terry Thomas as he passed away on June 11th. We continue to grieve alongside Ms. Angela and the Thomas family. We are immensely grateful for your generosity, guidance, and unwavering support you have shown our youth and our program over the years.

A big thank you to the Thomas family for welcoming our youth to their farm and supporting the Fruits of Our Labour program over the past four years. Their generosity and commitment to sharing their knowledge have helped create meaningful learning experiences for our participants. We are deeply thankful for the time, knowledge, and opportunities Mr. Terry shared with our participants. ♥️

Important Update: High Tea Fundraiser

We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible ticket sales, donations, and messages of support over the last 48 hours. Your generosity and encouragement mean so much to our club, children and youth ❤️🙏🏾

Even with this surge of support, we were not able to reach the sustainable number needed to move forward with our High Tea event. After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the High Tea Fundraiser event.💐☕️

While this is disappointing, we are truly encouraged by the response and reminded that our community believes in this work. 💛

For nearly 30 years, the Boys & Girls Club of Preston has offered free programs, opportunities, and events for children, youth, and families in Cherrybrook, Lake Loon, and surrounding areas. 🏡👧🏾👦🏾

With recent changes in funding, we’re looking to our community members, friends, and partners to help us remain sustainable — and to help us reach our goal of serving 400 kids by 2030 in a new building. 🏗️✨ We are growing, and we need your help to keep going! 💪🏾

BGC Preston Beats Spotlight 🎶🎧💚

Our BGC Preston Beats music program has been creating opportunities for youth to explore music and lyrical self-expression in a welcoming and community driven environment. With the guidance of facilitators Keke Beatz and Shawn Downey, youth have been learning, experimenting, and building confidence through music while connecting with peers and mentors.

Through sessions like these, youth are encouraged to express themselves creatively through brainstorming with peers, try something new, and to discover a new path of creativity and artistry. We’re grateful to MusiCounts for supporting BGC Preston Beats and helping make these experiences possible for our youth. 💚

What an incredible summer it has been at BGC Preston!💚☀️

As we officially wrap up Summer Camp 2026, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the memories, friendships, growth, laughter, and countless moments that made this summer so special.

Throughout the summer, our campers had the opportunity to learn, explore, create, and challenge themselves through a wide variety of engaging activities. From arts and crafts, sports, and team-building activities, group challenges and games.Our campers showed incredible creativity, teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm all summer long!🎨🙌🏀⚽

We made the most of the beautiful summer weather with exciting field trips to the beach, also finishing the summer with a fantastic end-of-year trip to Victoria Park, where campers had even more opportunity to get outside, enjoy the pool and nature walks, and celebrate everything they accomplished together this summer!🏕️🌿🏖️

One of the highlights of our summer was our talent show! Our campers had the chance to step into the spotlight and showcase their unique talents and skills. From sing and dance performances to creative acts and everything in between, it was amazing to see our campers support one another.🎵🎤🕺

This summer also gave our youth an opportunity to step into leadership through our junior leader program. Our junior leaders were introduced to valuable leadership habits, responsibilities, teamwork, communication, and opportunities to support and inspire younger campers. Watching them grow in confidence and take on new challenges has been truly rewarding! 🎯

We wrapped up our summer by recognizing and celebrating our campers during our summer award ceremony! It was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the effort, growth, kindness,leadership, creativity, teamwork, and positive spirit our campers demonstrated throughout the summer. Every camper brought something special and unique to camp, and we are so proud of each and every one of them! 🏆

As we close out Summer Camp 2026, we want to extend a huge thank you to our staff, volunteers, community partners, and families, and everyone who helped make this summer possible. Thank you for another memorable summer!💚

🎬🍿 BGC Preston Family Movie Day! 🍿🎬

We are excited to invite our community to a special Family Movie Day featuring The Incredibles 2! ❤️💥

What makes this event even more special is that it is a Youth Initiative led by a group of youth participating in our R.I.S.E Jr. Leadership Program! 🌟

Through the R.I.S.E program, our young leaders are building their leadership, communication, teamwork and planning skills by taking an active role in creating opportunities that bring families and community together. We are so proud to support them as they put those skills into action! 💚
