on Saturday June 20th we host the James W. Gordon Insurance Brokers Ltd. Mens Pairs. This is one of our longest running tournaments which was started by past President James Gordon in 1992. We thank Gordon Insurance for their continued support.

Ben van Steijn and Dan Milligan have won this tournament for the last view years - will they win again this year?

Visitors are welcome to come and watch this all day tournament.

There are twenty teams competing so should be a great tournament.

Our wonderful youth leaders, Jan Skillen and John Saunders have completed lawn bowling sessions for schools in Cobourg. 16 classes were held and 344 kids accompanied by 56 adults have been introduced to lawn bowling.

31 amazing volunteers helped out and they clapped, cheered, jumped up and down and even danced which made every student feel valued and special.

Jan and John have successfully re-launched our Youth Program!
To date we have 12 participants registered and paid for the summer program, with the prospect of another 12.

Congratulations to Jan and John and all the volunteers.

On Monday June 15, Peter Stuart-Sheppard headed up the road to Lindsay to play in the Denure Tours Mixed Triples tournament with Ron and Cathy Larking (Cosburn Park). Peter's team placed first, taking the trophy with 3 wins and 41 points. This was the 3rd time in the last 4 years that Peter, Cathy and Ron have won this trophy.

Wrapping up the Ontario Open Fours Championship with a report on how the Cobourg members fared.

Hopefully you will already have seen that the person I missed out when I previewed the championship had the most success. Jacob Hyatt with his fellow U18 players won the bronze medal and it's fair to say that the "Student Drivers" team was the story of the weekend.

The team that Peter Stuart-Sheppard was playing with made it to the quarter finals before being knocked out by Jacob's team. Ben van Steijn's team also made it to the quarter finals before being eliminated by the gold medal team skipped by Derek McKie.

The Cobourg ladies team, which was thrown together at the last minute, had a tough time against more experienced teams. In two of their five games they came close but it was not to be. Nonetheless they represented Cobourg very well.

On Friday when I posted about Cobourg members playing in the Ontario Open Fours Championships I missed Jacob Hyatt! I did remember late on Friday and corrected my error.

Anyway, the big story from the Championships is that the all U18 team of Isaac Kerr, Cayden Carter, Jacob and Dekker Ly won bronze beating some very experienced teams along the way. What a great advert they are for lawn bowling.

The Ontario Open Fours Championship is being held in Pickering on Saturday and Sunday. The Cobourg club has six participants.

In the ladies event we have an all Cobourg team of Lori Wills, Sarah van Steijn, Nan Hendren and Laura Mounce.

Peter Stuart-Sheppard and Ben van Steijn are also competing but on separate teams with members from other clubs.

Good luck to them all.

Cobourg will also be supplying two of the three umpires, Bill McCollam and Al Bell. May all your measures be accurate!
