Another great Jane’s Walk Cobourg! Thanks to leaders Lucas Marchand, Gina Brouwer, Eddie Cork, Dora Body and Mark Johnston, and to Mother Nature for keeping the rain at bay!

Jane’s Walk Cobourg returns for its third year on Saturday, May 4 with four great walks. They’ll happen rain or shine and each one will last about an hour. No need to register, just show up! Here's the schedule:

9:30 am – Music in Motion
Leader: SONG Artistic Director Lucas Marchand
Meet at Rotary Park
Join Lucas for a unique Jane's Walk that intertwines the rhythms of drumming and the melodies of singing with the exploration of our vibrant community. Music in Motion invites participants to express themselves through the universal language of music while taking in the beauty of Cobourg’s town center. As we stroll through the streets, we'll raise our voices and make some noise just for the joy of it. Feel free to bring your own drum!

11 am – Heritage Tree Tour of East Cobourg
Leaders: Gina Brouwer, Landscape Architect, Arborist and U of T Masters of Forest Conservation; Eddie Cork, Town of Cobourg Arborist
Meet at Merwin Greer School, 457 King St. E.
Gina and Eddie will share their deep knowledge of the urban forest and highlight some significant trees and a diversity of species in the east end of Cobourg, including the mature oak-beech forest south of Merwin Greer School that should be bursting with spring ephemerals.
Accessibility: Some uneven terrain through the forest and park trails.

1 pm – Ecology of the West Beach
Leader: Dora Body, past chair of the Cobourg Ecology Garden
Meet at the Ecology Garden Gazebo
We’ll start our stroll at the east end of the Cobourg Ecology Garden and learn about the history of the area. As we head west toward Bagot Street on the boardwalk, we’ll turn our aOention to the ecology of the West Beach and the possible changes in the school track area. Finally, on our way back to Hibernia Street, we’ll learn about the community impact of the Ecology Garden.

Accessibility: Family-friendly; dog-friendly; the Ecology Garden and Boardwalk are accessible and have some seating; the West Beach is sandy and uneven.

3 pm – Film and TV in Cobourg
Leader: Producer and Director Mark Johnston
Meet at Victoria Hall
You’ve seen the crews for Ginny and Georgia and Murdoch Mysteries around town, but Cobourg has a film legacy that goes way beyond those shows. Join Mark for the inside scoop on the past, present and future of film and TV in our town, including details of the Eye2Eye Festival coming up in June!

We're gearing up for Jane's Walk Cobourg 2023 on May 6! There are three walks planned right now, with others in development. Gigi Ludorf-Weaver, founder of Sustainable Cobourg, will lead a walk in the northwest part of town, exploring options for sustainable living. Ecology Garden Chair Dora Body will lead a walk through the garden and along the West Beach boardwalk, examining the shoreline ecosystem. And author and photographer John McQuarrie will lead a historical walk focusing on the harbour and Victoria Park.

Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks. Meantime, the Northumberland Manufacturers' Association is having a county-wide open house on April 22. It's an amazing opportunity to see what and how things are made in this region – packaging, car interiors, world-class millwork and more!

Great piece in today's Star about the legacy of Toronto community planner Lynda Macdonald, who's retiring after 33 years on the job.

It's the space between the towers that most interest Macdonald.

“That’s where people experience the city,” she says, citing “enough space on the sidewalks and having a little park you can sit in, or room for the outdoor café or a bench that you can sit down (on) because you’re tired, … also being beautiful and having room for trees and, having shops that open on the street so you feel like your city is engaging.”

Right on!
