Meet Moby!
Moby’s story started about 45 minutes from the farm, when a young goat mysteriously showed up at a property with two horses and decided to move in!
Eventually, we learned that a neighbour had acquired Moby and four other goats, but unfortunately, their fencing wasn’t secure and all five escaped. Moby found safety with the two horses, but the other four goats were never seen again. We fear they may have fallen victim to predators. 💔
The woman caring for Moby reached out to us, and while we prepared a space for him, she kindly kept him safe.
Although we’re not currently taking in goats, we felt Moby’s situation was one where we couldn’t say no. He’s absolutely terrified of people, and finding a safe, permanent home for a young goat who wants nothing to do with humans isn’t easy. We wanted to make sure he would never end up in the wrong hands.
Once Moby arrived, he received his veterinary exam and vaccinations. We then waited a month for his second vaccination and his neuter surgery.
Just 24 hours after surgery, our vet encouraged us to introduce him to some of our boys so he could get moving and recover well. He’s now been living with them for about a week, and overall, things are going really well!
We’ve had to do a little rearranging to keep our girls far away from Moby and his new friends, since recently neutered males can still potentially impregnate females for several weeks after surgery.
Moby is a healthy young boy who has his whole life ahead of him. He’s still incredibly fearful of people, and we don’t know how much that will change, but there’s absolutely no pressure for him to become friendly. He can take all the time he needs.
For now, he has new goat friends, plenty of space, and a safe home where he’ll never have to worry about what happens to him next.
