In collaboration with the Chatham-Kent Community Drug Strategy (Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team) and CK Public Health, a new resource has been developed to support families, caregivers and loved ones of people who use substances.

The resources include a local support services guide, connecting families and loved ones with programs and services, and includes support lines for those who may need immediate help or someone to talk to.

✨ SAVE THE DATE! ✨

R.O.C.K. is excited to announce A Night to Remember, an evening that intends to bring our community together to acknowledge the individuals we support and remember those we have lost to toxic drug poisonings and substance use-related harms.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 21st at the Chatham Portuguese Club and tickets go on sale September 16th!

Funds raised through this event will directly support R.O.C.K.’s ongoing programming, including drop-in operations, outreach services, and meals in both Chatham and Wallaceburg.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜

Overdose continues to affect every community. Yet it can be prevented. We know how to reduce risk and keep people safe. By speaking openly, learning from one another, and treating each other with care and respect, we build a world where fewer lives are lost.

Here are some ways you can take action:

💜 Wear purple on August 31st to show your support.
💜 Carry a Naloxone kit and learn how to respond to an overdose.
💜 Learn more about substance use stigma and drug policy in Canada. Share what you learn with others in your circles.
💜 Use person-first, non-stigmatizing language. The words we use can help reduce stigma, show compassion and respect, and make it easier for people to reach out for support. Research shows the words we use shape the care people who use substances receive and the opportunities available to them.
💜 Plan a Compassionate Approaches training for your team/organization to learn with and from People With Lived and Living Expertise, provided by R.O.C.K.
💜 Advocate for evidence-based solutions to the drug toxicity crisis such as early prevention, voluntary treatment, harm reduction, and supportive housing.

In collaboration with The CK Community Drug Strategy and CK Public Health, R.O.C.K. recognized International Overdose Awareness Day at our Chatham and Wallaceburg drop-in centres this week.

Both evenings were beautiful reminders of those we have lost, and the important work being done in our community.

Each year in August partners come together to remember individuals whose lives were cut short by preventable drug toxicities, and to re-imagine how we can co-create a safe, caring, and inclusive future for our community. This year, our theme is Every Story. Every Path. Every Life Matters.

Events will be hosted in Chatham and Wallaceburg at the R.O.C.K. drop in centres.
