💙 DID YOU KNOW? 💙

When people talk about homelessness or Pathways on Park (“Tiny Cabins”), the conversation is often negative.

What many people don’t realize is that among the residents are seniors over the age of 65 who simply lost their housing due to rising costs, health challenges, loss of income, or circumstances beyond their control.

At FreeHelpCK, we deliver Senior Hope Meals to these seniors twice a week. I have personally met them, sat with them, listened to their stories, and built relationships with them.

These are not just statistics.

They are real people.

They are someone’s grandmother.
Someone’s mother.
Someone’s father.
Someone’s grandfather.
Someone’s neighbour.
Someone’s friend.

Some have no family at all.

Without Pathways on Park (“Tiny Cabins”), many of these seniors would have been homeless.

Is it their forever home? No.

Is it where they imagined they would be living during their retirement years? Absolutely not.

But it is a safe place while they wait for permanent housing.

What breaks my heart is hearing these seniors talk about the negative comments they read online. Imagine losing your home and then reading comments that make you feel like you are somehow less valuable because of where you live.

No one deserves that.

Yes, there are residents at Pathways on Park (“Tiny Cabins”) facing addiction and other challenges. But let’s be honest — substance abuse, violence, and difficult behaviours exist in apartment buildings, high-rise housing, neighbourhoods, and communities everywhere.

We don’t condemn an entire apartment building because of one resident’s actions.

We don’t judge everyone living in a high-rise because there may be drug use, violence, or crime somewhere in that building.

Pathways on Park (“Tiny Cabins”) is no different.

One person’s choices should never define an entire community.

The seniors we visit twice each week are kind, respectful, grateful people who are simply trying to get through a difficult chapter of their lives with dignity.

The staff at Pathways on Park (“Tiny Cabins”) work incredibly hard every day to support residents and help them move into permanent housing as quickly as possible.

Before criticizing a place you’ve never visited, please remember that real people live there.

People who laugh.
People who cry.
People who worry about tomorrow.
People who are thankful for every meal delivered and every friendly face that stops by.

If you have never visited, never spoken with the residents, and never heard their stories, please think twice before bashing their home.

Because for many seniors living there right now, it is the difference between having a roof over their head and sleeping on the street.

❤️ They pay rent.
❤️ They deserve respect.
❤️ They deserve dignity.
❤️ They deserve compassion.

And most importantly, they deserve to be seen as people.

🌞 HAPPY WEDNESDAY, CHATHAM-KENT! 🌞

Before you keep scrolling, can we try something?

❤️ If you believe no child should go to school without supplies…
👍 If you believe no senior should go hungry…
🐾 If you believe pets are family too…
🙏 If you believe kindness still matters…

Drop a ❤️ in the comments.

At FreeHelpCK, we see the struggles many families face every day. We meet seniors choosing between food and medication, parents worried about school supplies, and families doing everything they can just to make it through the week.

But we also see something incredible…

We see a community that shows up.

Every backpack donated.
Every meal delivered.
Every pantry item shared.
Every post liked, commented on, and shared.

Together, those small acts create BIG change.

Today, let’s fill this post with kindness.

💬 Comment one word that describes what our community needs more of.

We’ll start: HOPE ❤️
