North Island Pride Society

North Island Pride Society North Island Pride exists to promote celebrations of diversity and inclusion through events, festivals, and community awareness campaigns.

We are grateful to live, work, and play on the traditional unceded territories that span the North Island. North Island Pride was established to provide a framework to organise the Campbell River Pride Festival. The first festival was held in 2015, and it was an extension of the work done by Kelly Whiteside with the annual Walk Away From Homophobia. The goal is to help educate on LGBTQ issues, create safe spaces, and celebrate diversity.

Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

A reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves without fear or shame.

Take a moment today to speak up against hate, support q***r and trans voices, or simply remind the people around you that they are valued exactly as they are. πŸ’–

Today, the National Semicolon Day, we pause to honour the quiet strength it takes to keep going.

A semicolon represents a sentence the author could have ended, but didn’t. In that same spirit, we stand with every person who has chosen to continue their story, even when it felt impossibly heavy.

At North Island Pride Society, we know that 2SLGBTQIA+ communities are deeply resilient, and also deserve support, safety, and care without exception. You are not alone in your struggles, and your story matters exactly as it is, unfinished and still unfolding.

Today is about compassion over judgment, connection over isolation, and hope over silence.

If you’re able, check in on someone. Share your story. Or simply remind yourself that staying is an act of courage.

We are proud to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility πŸ’–

To our trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse community members: we see you, we celebrate you, and we are so grateful for the joy, resilience, and brilliance you bring into the world every single day.

Visibility is powerful. It creates connection, builds understanding, and reminds those who are still finding their way that they are not alone. Your stories matter. Your identities are valid. You deserve to live fully, safely, and authentically exactly as you are.

At North Island Pride Society, we stand with you. We are committed to creating spaces where you are celebrated, supported, and uplifted.
Here’s to living out loud, taking up space, and shining brightly 🌈✨

Sports are for everybody.

Sports are for everybody.

Egale Canada strongly condemns the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s decision to ban transgender women from participating in women’s events at the Olympic Games and to require sex-testing of all female athletes. This policy is discriminatory and rooted in the same misinformation and fear that have fueled rising transphobia in sport and beyond.

Sport should be a place of inclusion and belonging. Instead, the IOC has chosen exclusion by aligning itself with political agendas rather than human rights and evidence-based policy.

Egale Canada calls on the IOC to reverse this decision, engage meaningfully with experts and affected communities, and uphold its responsibility to protect the human rights and dignity of all athletes.

We are looking for allies and protectors to come and volunteer for Trans Day of Visibility!

This event will be joyful and very very important in these political times. We want to be able to have the event without most of the labour being done by trans* people, so that we can celebrate too.
