On September 28, our team came together for a day of learning and reflection on Truth and Reconciliation.

We had the honour of learning how to build a teepee with Elder Raymond and Elder Greta, both residential school Survivors. They generously shared their experiences of being separated from family and culture, their efforts to preserve their language and traditions, and the role of humour in healing and perseverance.

Through their teachings, they continue to educate and inspire others to work toward reconciliation. Elder Ray also gifted our team the song you hear in this video.

We are deeply grateful for their time, openness, and patience with our questions.

Their teachings remind us that reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility, one we carry forward through listening, learning, and putting those lessons into practice in our work and communities.

Calgary Legal Guidance will be closed on September 28 and 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

On September 28, our team will participate in training to deepen our understanding of Truth and Reconciliation and reflect on its meaning for Indigenous Peoples and all Canadians.

On September 30, staff will be given time to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on our individual and collective responsibilities toward reconciliation.

We will be open on September 29.
