𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.

After close to a year of research, consultation and collaboration, the Rocket Fund is proud to launch 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗺: 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝘀’ 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮, a landmark white paper exploring what it means to put children’s rights at the forefront of Canada’s media.

Led by children’s media researcher and industry veteran Kim Wilson, the white paper draws on research across industry, policy, education, technology and families to examine the future of children’s media in Canada.

Project Sunbeam brings together 5 sections, 49 Key Findings, 137 Supporting Findings and 36 Recommendations that offer insights and a roadmap for action to help inform policy, industry strategy and the continued creation of Canadian stories for young audiences.

Most importantly, it asks us to consider what we owe the children and young people we serve, and what we can do, together as Team Canada, to ensure their rights, voices and needs remain at the centre of the conversation.

➡️ Read Project Sunbeam and explore the findings and recommendations: https://rocketfund.ca/white-paper

We also invite you to share your feedback on the white paper at the link above or by emailing [email protected]. Your perspectives and participation are essential to shaping the future of Canadian children’s and youth media.

We’re all part of Team Canada.

𝗟𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗶.

This award is given to an emerging Canadian director who has only made one or two features and includes a $10,000 cash prize. The jury members are Zarrar Kahn, Justine Pimlott and Sophy Romvari, who called the film “electric [and carrying] heart and humour in equal measure, while never shying away from the challenges faced by Indigenous communities caused by the ongoing treatment of Indigenous people and colonization of Indigenous lands.”

Smudge the Blades is produced by Lightning, alongside Joshua Jackson, Kyle Thomas, Sara Corry, Hayley Morin and Dylan Morin via Lightning Mill and North Country Cinema.

Congratulations on your well-deserved win!

Announcing the launch of a new innovative initiative from Producing for the Planet: a Sustainable Animation Toolkit!

The toolkit provides Canadian animation producers with practical tools to integrate sustainability into their production processes and translate that commitment into meaningful action. These kinds of sustainable practices are essential to building a resilient, thriving sector for generations to come and we were so pleased to have a front-row seat in the toolkit's creation as lead partner on the project.

We encourage everyone to check out the toolkit and share your feedback: https://www.producingfortheplanet.com/animation-toolkit

Today at : Smudge the Blades

This coming-of-age hockey film follows the TREATY 6 BLADES, a U18 team from a small reserve outside of Edmonton, forced to salvage their final year of hockey in the rough-and-tumble Country League of northern Alberta. The story combines hockey antics with a heartfelt coming-of-age look at reserve-life challenges and community strength.
