Today, we came together to celebrate the life of someone we had the privilege to know and work closely with for many years. Serge would have been truly amazed to see how many people showed up to pay their respects — a testament to the impact he had on people.

To every outreach worker and shelter staff member who has worked with Serge, thank you. Thank you for the work you did, and for the work you continue to do every single day for people in our community. I am incredibly proud to stand alongside each and every one of you.

A special thank you to those who helped make today possible:

• Bathurst HumanKind Network team for all the help to make today possible.
• Harbor of Hope - Havre de l'espoir team members who came to join us in paying our respects
• Tim Hortons on Vanier for the timbits
• Glendennings for the beautiful bouquet
• Shawn’s Mustard Seed for the sandwiches and veggies
• Elhattons for the urn
• Elhattons for the compassionate customer service from start to finish
• Father Keith for the service
• And to Serge’s family and friends, thank you for being there to honor him one last time

A new Sexual Violence Investigations Unit was established within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in November 2025.

The unit will focus on improving investigations and supporting survivors of s*xual violence including s*xual exploitation and s*x trafficking, and contribute to safer communities across the province. This initiative reflects a collaborative commitment to dignity, accountability, and justice.

The first site has started operations at the Courage Centre in Shediac, with additional locations planned for Oromocto and Tracadie. Together, these efforts strengthen a province-wide network of supports for survivors.

This is a significant step forward in strengthening support for survivors of s*xual violence in New Brunswick.

The Community Advisory Board (CAB) Summit is an annual event in New Brunswick, Canada, focused on strategizing and finding collaborative, community-driven solutions to address chronic homelessness and poverty across the province.
