Many of you in our La Boussole - The Compass network frequently ask how to get involved and make a tangible difference in the lives of people affected by s*xual violence — and this might be the perfect opportunity:

Sexual Violence New Brunswick / Violence s*xuelle Nouveau-Brunswick (SVNB) is hosting their first virtual, province-wide Support Line Volunteer Training this Fall! 💻✨

Historically, the SVNB support line was operated locally out of Fredericton. However, due to a significant increase in calls coming in from all corners of New Brunswick seeking support, SVNB is opening up this volunteer training to anyone across the province.

Here are the essential details you need to know before applying:

💻 100% Virtual Training: You can complete the training from the comfort of your home anywhere in NB.
⚠️ Mandatory Attendance: Full attendance at all virtual sessions is mandatory to be eligible to volunteer on the line. If you have schedule conflicts with any of the dates, you won't be able to participate this round.
🗣️ Language Requirements:
• English proficiency is required (training is conducted in English, and the line guarantees service in English).
• Bilingualism is a huge plus! Whether you speak French or another language, additional language skills are deeply appreciated as the support line aims to expand its language capacity.

Violence s*xuelle Nouveau-Brunswick (VSNB) organise cet automne sa toute première formation virtuelle à l'échelle de la province pour les bénévoles de sa ligne d'écoute ! 💻✨

Historiquement, la ligne d'écoute de VSNB était gérée localement à partir de Fredericton. Cependant, en raison d'une hausse importante des appels provenant de tous les coins du Nouveau-Brunswick, VSNB ouvre désormais cette formation à l'ensemble de la province.

Voici les détails essentiels à savoir avant de postuler :

💻 Formation 100 % virtuelle : Vous pouvez suivre la formation dans le confort de votre foyer, peu importe où vous habitez au N.-B.
⚠️ Présence obligatoire : La présence intégrale à toutes les sessions virtuelles est obligatoire pour pouvoir être bénévole sur la ligne. Si vous avez un conflit d'horaire avec l'une des dates, il ne sera malheureusement pas possible de participer à cette cohorte.
🗣️ Exigences linguistiques :

July 30 is known internationally as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons - a day to raise awareness of a deeply misunderstood human rights issue that can happen anywhere, and is often hidden in plain sight.

We know that:
- The average age of recruitment for s*x trafficking in Canada is 12–14 years old.
- Our neighbouring city Moncton has the second-highest municipal rate of s*x trafficking in Canada, trailing only Halifax.
- 91% of trafficking survivors knew their trafficker before the s*xual exploitation began.
(Public Safety Canada, 2018; Statistics Canada, 2021; Statistics Canada, 2023).

MomsStopTheHarm is putting together a Youth Advisory Team! This is an opportunity for young folks (16-28) who've been impacted by substance use harm or loss to use their voice to support change. If this sounds like you, or someone you know, check out the information below:

Moms Stop The Harm met sur pied une équipe consultative jeunesse ! C'est l'occasion pour les jeunes (16-28 ans) touchés par les méfaits ou le deuil liés à la consommation de substances de faire entendre leur voix pour soutenir le changement. Si tu te reconnais ou tu te reconnaît un proche, voir les information ci-dessous :

Moms Stop The Harm is creating a program for youth by youth, and we want your help! If you are between the ages of 16 - 28 years old, have been impacted by substance use related loss or harm, and are interested in finding ways to support other youth with similar experiences, we want to hear from you!

The MSTH Youth Advisory Team will be made up of a small group of passionate young with lived experience people from across Canada who come together to share experiences, ideas, recommendations, and information. This sharing will work in collaboration with the Youth Co-ordinator to help establish and facilitate a program that truly meets the needs of young people.

The team will meet every 1 to 2 months, with a schedule we will develop together. All members will be compensated for their time.
