On behalf of our members, our sincere condolences go out to the family, friends and coworkers of the Toronto Traffic Agent who was killed while on duty this morning.
Every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of their shift. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic loss.
“This morning, a City of Toronto traffic agent and member of CUPE Local 79 was killed while at work. Our hearts are heavy, and our deepest condolences are with their family, their friends and the coworkers who worked alongside them.
Our first priority is making sure that everyone affected is cared for and are in contact with the City to ensure traffic agents have the support, time and space they need to grieve. Out of respect for the family, we will not be sharing the member’s name or any personal details at this time.
Every worker deserves to come home safely at the end of their shift. Local 79 will be involved in every step of the investigation to make sure the circumstances are fully examined and that everything possible is done to protect the people who work on our streets.”
