🎃 Abrio Place Gets Ready for Halloween with a Little Help from Friends! 🍂

Abrio Place welcomed the Airdrie Youth Volunteers for a fun evening of pumpkin carving with residents. For some residents and youth, it was their first time carving a pumpkin, making it extra special as they tried something new together.

The youth took inspiration from the residents’ ideas and brought them to life in some amazing pumpkin creations! 🎃✨

The evening was filled with creativity, laughter, and intergenerational connection. It was wonderful to see residents and youth learning from one another and building friendships.

A big thank-you to the Airdrie Youth Volunteers for sharing their time, creativity, and enthusiasm with Abrio Place! 🧡

Wrinkle University Rocks On at Rocky View Lodge!

Residents continued their learning at Wrinkle University with a geology lecture from Housekeeping Manager Ashley Metzger! The class explored different types of rocks and the stories they tell about the Earth.

A Full-Circle Journey Home to Big Hill Lodge

After a lifetime of telling community stories, Andy has become part of a special one himself.

Born in England, Andy moved to Canada in 1965 and built a journalism career that took him from Montreal to Lethbridge and then Calgary, where his reporting included seniors’ issues. In 1984, he and his wife, Chris, purchased The Cochrane Times and made Cochrane their home.

Andy’s connection to the community extended beyond the newspaper. From 2004 to 2007, he served on Cochrane Town Council and Rocky View Foundation’s Board of Directors, helping guide the organization he would one day call home.

After downsizing and moving to Calgary in 2021, Andy and Chris eventually found their way back to Cochrane—and to Big Hill Lodge, just around the corner from where they had lived for many years. ❤️

Since moving in, they have enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces, making new friends, and experiencing the kindness and support of the lodge team.

“The lodge feels very familiar and has such a great community feel,” Andy shares. “We have always had a strong connection here, and that has only been confirmed since moving in.”

For someone who spent years sharing Cochrane’s stories and helping shape its future, returning to this community is a meaningful new chapter.

Big Hill Lodge is proud to be part of Andy and Chris’s journey home.

A Look Back at National Physiotherapy Day!

On September 8, Abrio Place residents marked National Physiotherapy Day with a specialized workout led by Krystal from at in Airdrie.

The session focused on hip health, mobility and function while incorporating core and upper-body exercises. Together, these exercises help support strength, recovery, mobility and, most importantly, fall prevention.

Residents had a fantastic opportunity to learn, move and build confidence in their bodies while practising skills they had been developing over the previous few months.

Abrio Place extends a huge thank-you to Krystal for sharing her expertise and helping residents stay strong, mobile and active! 💚

🌻 A Little Sunshine at Big Hill Lodge!

Big Hill Lodge residents welcomed fall with a sunflower craft, using nature as inspiration to create their own works of art. Each sunflower turned out a little differently, making for a lovely afternoon of creativity and conversation. 🍂

🎲 Games Night with Airdrie Youth Volunteers!

Residents enjoyed another fantastic evening with an amazing group of youth volunteers from Airdrie!

The volunteers introduced residents to a new variation of Sorry!, which brought plenty of laughs, friendly competition and fun. The evening wrapped up with Crazy Bingo, featuring the youngest bingo caller yet!

A heartfelt thank-you goes to this wonderful group of volunteers for bringing so much energy and joy to every visit. Everyone is already looking forward to the next games night! 💚

🐦 Building a Little Piece of Crossfield!

Rocky View Lodge residents recently put their creativity and construction skills to work during a grain elevator birdhouse-building day offered by the Crossfield Seniors Club and subsidized by the Town of Crossfield FCSS.

The project was challenging at times, but seeing the finished birdhouses made all the hard work worthwhile. There may have been plenty of glue and tape involved, but the final creations turned out wonderfully!

Thank you to the Crossfield Seniors Club and FCSS for providing such a fun and rewarding activity for the residents. 🏠

🌸 Many Hands, Beautiful Results! 🌸

Abrio Place residents brought creativity and teamwork together to complete two beautiful paper floral arrangements!

Each creation was truly a group effort, with residents drawing, cutting, pasting and carefully arranging every piece to bring the colourful flowers to life. Everyone had an important part to play, and the finished arrangements are a wonderful reflection of what can happen when creativity and helping hands come together.

🚌🎉 A Birthday Lunch to Remember!

Rocky View Lodge residents recently enjoyed a bus trip to The Station Restaurant in Strathmore—and the outing fell on Leslie’s birthday!

Leslie was delighted when her dessert arrived with a sparkling surprise. The restaurant made the celebration even more special by treating her to a complimentary birthday meal.
