The Kalix Legacy Foundation was created to honor Kalix Langenau’s dream of helping financially challenged families cover the cost of program and training fees and equipment costs so that every child has the same opportunity to play sports. When he was 14 he started helping coach the younger goalies in the camps at Explosive Edge. He continued to coach all the different programs over the years unti
l he left to pursue other ventures in November of 2019. Although he was able to have the best trainers and opportunities in life, his 3 brothers at his mom's house didn’t have the same opportunities. He would spend his spare time at the outdoor rinks helping, coaching, playing with his brothers, and even volunteering as a coach for both of his younger brother’s teams. Before he moved to Vancouver to go help his uncle at his rebar company, he had talked to my wife, Betina and Kim Bergmen at Explosive Edge, about how he could help kids afford to go to Explosive Edge. When he left for Vancouver he told Chris Bergmen, owner of Explosive Edge, to keep his last check for a family who needed it. Kalix was the best big brother, who really loved and watched over his siblings. He was always there when his friends needed him and always tried to help those in need who didn’t ask. He was a stubborn strength, the rock, in the family. He was ready to give everything he had to help others in need. We love him so much, and when he left us too early, Kalix took a little piece of everyone’s soul with him. We have continued to honor Kalix’s legacy and memory by turning his last paycheck from Explosive Edge into the start of The Kalix Legacy Foundation. We will always be proud of the person he is and how he touched so many in the all-too short life that he lived. May his legacy live forever through the kids that are helped by this foundation!
