I’d like to thank Rotary Club of Airdrie for their generous donation. Last night, on Giving Tuesday, the Rotary club gave out just over $14000 to 10 different charities/NFP’s. The Sober Friends Society received $1500!! We are grateful for the continued support. Thank you Rotary Club. You’re appreciated.

Statement from Mike Loughman
Founder & President, The Sober Friends Society
Founder of The Pirate & Princess Gala

Hello everyone,

My name is Mike Loughman, and I’m the Founder and President of The Sober Friends Society, as well as the Founder and Creator of The Pirate & Princess Gala.

For several years, I’ve proudly organized this event to celebrate our community and support sobriety in a fun, inclusive way.

Recently, two individuals (Ruthanna Friesen amd Elle Geary) who were previously involved with the event decided to hold their own event using the same name — The Pirate & Princess Gala — scheduled shortly before ours. They also sent me a cease-and-desist letter threatening legal action if I spoke about the event’s origins or held my own.

After consulting with legal professionals, I was advised that their actions may infringe on my rights. I have since filed a lawsuit to protect the event and everything our community has built together.

Since this began, I’ve learned they have contacted several of my sponsors, donors, volunteers, and entertainers, asking them to work with or support their event instead. I’m extremely grateful and proud to share that everyone I’ve spoken with has declined their offers and chosen to continue supporting The Sober Friends Society. Your loyalty and integrity mean the world to me.

Unfortunately, false statements have also been made about me personally — including claims that I’ve relapsed or driven under the influence. These are completely untrue. I remain fully committed to my sobriety and to helping others find the same freedom through our organization.

All I ask is this:
• Please be cautious about supporting or donating to any event using The Pirate & Princess Gala name that isn’t affiliated with The Sober Friends Society.
• If you’re approached or hear statements about me or our organization, please let me know.
• And if you’re able, I’d truly appreciate any kind of community support — whether that’s words of encouragement, bottle donations, or small contributions — to help with the legal costs of defending our work.

My lawyer has asked that I not share evidence publicly right now, but everything will come out through the proper legal process. I’m confident the truth will be clear when that time comes.

Thank you to everyone who has stood by me and The Sober Friends Society. Your support, kindness, and belief in what we do mean everything.

With gratitude,
— Mike Loughman

So The Sober Friends Society has been offering horse therapy to some of our clients. I went last night to see how it is. I loved it. Once the program we are in now is over we will offer it to some new clients. Picture for attention.

Ever since we’ve had to switch locations our paint night attendance has dropped significantly. I’d like to let everyone know that our new location is just about a 20 sec drive past Hillcrest on 8th. We aren’t that far out of the city at all. We are in a quaint little farm house that Mackenzie Cox has made into a beautiful art studio. Please check out Sober Sociables Paint Night this mont.

Paint night was super fun! Thank you Mackenzie Cox for guiding us through such a peaceful painting. Here’s some pics.
