We run three programs: prison mentorship, No One Leaves Alone (NOLA), and Hidden Treasures Thrift Stores. Each aims to share inclusive, restorative love with people in prison, on parole, and in the community. Prison mentorship brings companionship, accountability, and an outside perspective to folks in prison—people who regularly experience isolation and loneliness. In a mentoring relationship, people in prison can build trust and find healing in a safe space. No One Leaves Alone (NOLA) provides post-prison support by connecting people with the resources and relationships they need for successful community reintegration. Participants access support in five areas: housing, health, employment, education, and relationships. At Hidden Treasures people on parole, work release, or Escorted Temporary Absence (ETA) can gain employment experience alongside store staff and volunteers. Store proceeds help support our organization.

“Once they get out of prison, it’s not the end. It’s another beginning.”

Mark Jarman knows what that new beginning can look like. After spending over three decades in prison, he found that relationships with M2W2 mentors, volunteers, and the Hidden Treasures community helped him rediscover trust, self-worth, and a sense of belonging.

Today, Mark hopes others impacted by incarceration will experience that same support: people willing to walk alongside them as they build a life beyond prison.

Everyone needs someone in their corner.

For Bill, prison mentorship begins with listening, acceptance, and a willingness to keep coming back.

He has learned that faith can be shared with both gentleness and courage, sometimes through something as simple as asking, “Is it okay if I pray for you?”

Many of the people Bill meets are carrying deep loneliness and may struggle to believe they are worthy of love or acceptance. A mentor cannot fix everything, but they can offer something deeply meaningful: time, respect, consistency, and care.

Sometimes that means listening for an hour and a half. Sometimes it means walking alongside someone for months or even years.

At M2W2, mentorship is about showing people they are seen, valued, and worth coming back for.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with simply showing up.

For more than 20 years, Bill has continued walking alongside someone he first met inside prison. Today, that man is back in the community, working, reconnecting with his family, and building a stable life.

Stories like this are a reminder of why steady relationships matter. People impacted by incarceration can face deep loneliness and uncertainty, and having someone willing to listen, encourage, and keep coming back can make a meaningful difference.

Research on reentry programs has linked mentorship with stronger employment outcomes and lower odds of returning to prison. At M2W2, we see the value of consistent relationships through thousands of mentorship visits each year.

“I’ve learned to walk a mile in their shoes and just see where they’re coming from.”

Long-time volunteer for M2W2, John Wikkerink reflects on the importance of coming to understand people impacted by incarceration. In doing so, we learn and see them in a whole new light, shifting our perspectives and creating deeper, more meaningful connections.

Through mentorship, we walk alongside people not from a place of judgment but from empathy and understanding so that they feel empowered to do the same.
