Only 33% of Footscray's Strategic Cycling Corridors have been built.

Bicycle Network have launched an impressive easy-to-use tool that highlights the gaps in our cycling network as part of their 'Gimme 5' campaign.

The tool even has a handy-dandy link so you can email your local MP letting them know you'd like to see 5% of the states road funding dedicated to Active Transport.

We've been working with Bicycle Network and others ask the state government to commit to dedicating 5% of the transport budget to fund the construction of the Strategic Cycling Corridors.This is money that could go towards building and the as well as other much needed routes in the west and across the state. These gaps in the safe network have been there too long, with too little progress and it's time the state committed to building them.

Dixon Veloway between Footscray and West Melbourne will be closed overnight on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 June from 7pm-5am for planning maintenance.

Will they improve the expansion joints? We doubt it, but would welcome being wrong!

Detour via the existing shared user path along Footscray Rd (in Green).

Tottenham Station - Riders Dismount

Here at BikeWest, we're still flabbergasted that the new Tottenham Station with its welcome new pedestrian tunnel will be a 'riders dismount' zone!
Despite the fact that on the north side of the tracks is a very popular shared path and Maribyrnong Councill will be building a short bike link to the Stony Creek on the south.

The new tunnel is clearly wide enough to cater for bike riders and pedestrians alike, in much the same way that West Footscray station safely supports people riding and walking.

If you get just a moment today, can you please head to Engage Vic and do their short survey. At question 8 you can suggest that the tunnel should cater for bike riders travelling between South and North West Footscray.

Your 5 minutes of effort can help make West Footscray just that little bit better!

Anderson St Level Crossing Removal plans are out.

While the main underpass nearest Anderson st will be stairs/elevator only, a second underpass near Murray st will allow people to ride under a tracks directly (confirmed with the Level Crossing Removal Project). So those times of waiting 5+ minutes at the gates as numerous trains go past will be a thing of the past once complete. We're happy that there will be an option for riding without dismounting but still want to see how connections to Yarraville will work and if there will be any additional active transport infrastructure as part of the project. Are you surprised that Active Transport recieved only a paltry $1M in the proposed FY25/26 budget?

Despite Active Transport being the second most requested item in Council's feedback last year!
