Having no choice but to use unsafe water for everyday needs is an .

After being displaced by the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, Khon Kimly and her family faced daily challenges accessing safe water and basic services.

Together with local partners, Oxfam supported families in displacement camps with clean water points, sanitation facilities, dignity kits and privacy tents, helping people access the essentials they need to live safely and with dignity.

“We came with only what we wore.”

For Ratana and Pon’s family, displacement meant arriving with almost nothing. Safe drinking water was hard to find, latrines were overcrowded, and daily life became a series of long lines and difficult decisions.

Clean water, sanitation support and cash assistance helped ease some of that pressure, but the road home came with new challenges too.

Immediate support is only part of the journey. We need to change the systems that create these and work together on the long road to development and recovery.

By using modern desalination technology, this project is transforming the way water is supplied in one of the driest regions in the world, where frequent droughts and degraded groundwater have left families at risk.

In Turkana, Kenya, the burden of collecting water falls overwhelmingly on women and girls. When the borehole in Nawamor broke down, getting water was a three hour round trip on foot to access a shallow, hand-dug well, shared with cattle.
