One of the challenges when living on the streets is personal hygiene, some people shower at shelters and some in public toilet blocks, either way people are constantly worrying ‘Who is around’ or ‘Am I safe’. In 2014 One Voice launched Australia’s first Mobile Shower Service in Melbourne, this was a pilot program in a 12m trailer. In 2015 we went one step further by building the Worlds First Fully
Self Contained Mobile Shower Bus in Melbourne. The vehicle had the capacity to provide up to 50 showers by use of our 2000L onboard water and waste tanks, the hot water was produced by an instantaneous hot water service supplied by Rinnai and the electricity from a diesel generator. In 2016 we replicated the above service with a bus in Sydney Australia. In 2017 we redesigned a vehicle from our learnings by introducing a Mobile Shower Truck with 2 showers, solar powered electricity and a gas hot water service. These vehicles can be driven on a car licence and offer people more room to shower and change, enhancing the dignity we help restore. (2022) we have 8 vehicles in our fleet in QLD - VIC - SA - WA and NSW
We provide the following services to our friends on the streets:
- A safe environment to shower, shave and get clean.
- Referral services to organisations that provide support and assistance. In 2018 One Voice acquired a property in the Macedon Ranges, we call this place 'Elevate' this is a work in progress and will eventually provide housing and training for at-risk youth, filling a gap that is much needed in our society.
2019 we launched our first Social Enterprise that provides training in hospitality, this is achieved in the One Voice Food Truck, the current menu is Mexican. https://onevoice.org.au/foodtruck/
2021 we launched Biltong not Jerky, a South African cured meat, the kids we help experimented in lockdowns and this product was birthed. https://www.biltongnotjerky.com.au
2022 we are working on running a Bistro at the Woodend RSL, adding another initiative that helps train youth in hospitality.
