Collaboration isn't a buzzword for us. It's how the work gets done and impact is created.

We don't parachute into a town with a truck and call it mission accomplished. We build the truck. We hand the keys to a local service partner who already knows their community — who people are, where they sleep, what they need.

In Bathurst, that's United Spark and Cathedral Parish. In Geelong, we've just funded a new truck backed by Give Where You Live Foundation. In Bendigo and Castlemaine, the Salvation Army help keep the service running strong.

They do the hard work. We make sure they've got the tools.

That's what collaboration looks like to us: TRUST, respect, and local people leading local solutions.

Stop Being Angry at the Symptom. Start Demanding Action on the Cause.

One thing I've noticed in Australia is how often our anger is directed at the wrong target.

People get angry at tents in parks, people sleeping in their cars, people asking for help, or a food van serving those doing it tough.

But those things aren't the cause.

They're the symptom.

Behind every tent is a person. A parent. A grandparent. Someone's son or daughter. Most never imagined this would become their reality.

The real cause is a housing system that has become unaffordable for too many Australians, a shortage of affordable homes, and support systems struggling to keep up.

Sadly, Australia also has a growing culture of NIMBYism—"Not In My Backyard." We want homelessness solved... just not where we can see it. We oppose affordable housing, emergency accommodation and outreach services, then wonder why the problem keeps growing.

Moving people on doesn't solve homelessness.

It just moves the problem.

The next time you feel angry at the sight of homelessness, ask yourself:

Am I angry at the people... or at the system that failed them?

If we want fewer tents, we need more solutions—not less compassion.

WHEN……..

🚨 PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS ARE BEING TOLD TO MOVE ON. MOVE WHERE?

Australia has agreed under international law that everyone has the right to adequate housing.

Yet adequate housing is still not expressly protected as a standalone right in any Australian state or territory’s human rights legislation.

In March 2026, the Queensland Supreme Court found City of Moreton Bay acted unlawfully in its treatment of people experiencing homelessness, including failing to properly consider human rights obligations when enforcing local laws and removing belongings.

The case proved that enforcing local laws does not give authorities permission to ignore their obligations under Queensland’s Human Rights Act.

People with nowhere to live had their shelters and possessions removed, with no guarantee of somewhere safe to go.

A referral is not accommodation.
A waiting list is not a home.
Moving homelessness somewhere less visible does not solve it.

Housing means safety, dignity and stability. It gives families, elderly people, those escaping violence, and people facing illness, addiction or mental health challenges a foundation to rebuild their lives.

Human rights do not disappear because someone sleeps in a tent.

We spend far too much time, money and resources deciding where people experiencing homelessness cannot sleep, while failing to provide enough places where they can safely live.

Stop asking, “How do we move them on?”

Start asking, “Where are they supposed to go?”

It started with one man and one shower. 🚿

In 2012, our founder Josh Wilkins made a choice that would change thousands of lives — including his own. He spent 6 months living on the streets of Melbourne, determined to understand homelessness firsthand rather than from a distance. What he found, again and again, was the same simple need: somewhere safe, private, and warm to have a shower.

By 2014, that experience had become Australia's first Mobile Shower Service — one custom-built trailer, one location, one small act of dignity at a time.

This month we're looking back at where One Voice began, and forward to where we're headed. Follow along as we share the story.

This week you've seen it firsthand — Bathurst still going strong, Castlemaine/Bendigo locked in, and Geelong just getting started. That's what your support does. But we're not done. Three more trucks are sitting ready in Victoria — one for the east, one for the city, one more community still to confirm — and every one of them needs funding to hit the road. Over the coming weeks we're going to show you exactly what's at stake. Everyone deserves the dignity of a hot shower — help us make sure of it for Melbourne too.
