Vale Robert Mayo AM.
Surf Life Saving SA, along with South Port SLSC Inc. and our broader Surf Life Saving family in SA, are saddened to learn of the passing Robert 'Bob' Mayo AM. Robert was a Surf Life Saving SA and Surf Life Saving Australia Life Member and Hall of Famer. His list of accomplishments are extensive, just some of the listed below, and he was a stalwart of our movement.
We are thinking of Bob's family and friends at this time, as well as the South Port SLSC community.
Vale, Bob. β€οΈπ
Such sad news today with the passing of Club Life Member Robert βRJβ Mayo AM on Thursday 4 June.
βRJβ was a legend of the Club joining in the early 1960βs.
Over his exemplary commitment to South Port, he held numerous positions including Club Captain for a season, Secretary and Treasurer for 4 seasons together with being the Clubβs March Past coach for numerous years, donating his time in an unmeasurable amount!
Besides being a Life Member of the Club, he was also a Life Member of Surf Life Saving Australia together with Surf Life Saving SA.
He was recognised in many levels for his dedication to not only the Club but to surf life saving in general which included:
- Inducted into Surf Life Saving Australia Hall of Fame in 2008.
- Inducted as Member/Coach of the South Port March Past Team into Surf Life Saving Australia Hall of Fame in 2015.
- Inducted into Surf Life Saving SA Hall of Fame in 2016.
- Inducted as Member/Coach of South Port March Past Team into Surf Life Saving SA Hall of Fame in 2016.
- Inaugural South Port SLSC Sporting Hall of Fame Member in 2020.
Bob's legacy is significant with the Club being nationally recognised as a leader in the Australian March Past arena but also through his support of the Clubβs Mayo Room.
Members send our sincere condolences to wife Kaye, son Phil and the extended Mayo family.
RIP βRJβ you will be sorely missed π’
