Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council Darkinjung is the Local Aboriginal Land Council in the Wyong and Gosford Shire Council area and is a major landowner on the Central Coast.

Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) focuses on improving, protecting and fostering the best interests of its members and all Aboriginal persons within the Central Coast area. The Darkinjung LALC is located on the Central Coast of New South Wales. Its boundaries stretch from Catherine Hill Bay to the north, Hawkesbury River to the south, the Pacific Ocean to the east and Watagan Mountai

ns to the west. The Darkinjung region is rich in Aboriginal culture and heritage, largely due to its diverse landscape and has over 7,000 registered Aboriginal sites. The Council is committed to inspiring and respecting Aboriginal traditions and cultural values for the entire community. The Council achieves these objectives by implementing a number of policies and procedures in compliance with the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW), which states the functions of a Local Aboriginal Land Council. Darkinjung LALC’s role includes:
• acquiring, using and dealing with land
• identifying and protecting land of cultural significance to Aboriginal persons
• making claims to crown land
• protecting the interests of Aboriginal people in its area
• providing residential accommodation for Aboriginal people in the area in regard to the use, acquisition, management, control or disposal of land
• negotiate with persons desiring to use, occupy or gain access to any part of its land
• promote the protection of Aboriginal culture and heritage of Aboriginal persons in its area

The Board, Members and Staff of Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council (DLALC) would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Darcy Smith on his selection in the NSW Under 19s State of Origin Squad.

This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to Darcy's hard work, dedication, talent and commitment to rugby league. His selection to represent New South Wales on one of rugby league's biggest stages is a proud moment for his family, the Darkinjung Community, and all those who have supported him throughout his journey.

We would also like to acknowledge and congratulate Darcy's proud family, especially his grandmother Cathie Sinclair, his mother Belynda Sinclair, and his father Duncan Smith. This outstanding achievement reflects not only Darcy's determination and perseverance, but also the unwavering support, encouragement and guidance provided by his family and community over many years.

As a proud young man connected to the Darkinjung Community, Darcy's success is an inspiration to our young people and a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and belief in yourself. His achievement is one that our entire community can celebrate with pride.

Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council Board Update
Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council advises members that, due to personal circumstances outside of her involvement with the organisation, Tina Weldon-West has stepped down from her position as Chairperson and Board Member.
Tina has served Darkinjung and its members for more than a decade, including in the roles of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson. Throughout that time, she has been a dedicated leader and a strong advocate for the interests of members, community and future generations. The Board sincerely thanks Tina for her years of service to the community and wishes her and her family all the best for the future.

The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Jackson as Chairperson. Daniel joined the Board in 2023 and has been a committed advocate for members and the long-term aspirations of the Darkinjung community. A proud Wiradjuri man who has been part of the Darkinjung community since the age of 12, Daniel brings a deep connection to community and a strong commitment to creating opportunities and lasting benefits for current and future generations.

As Chairperson, Daniel is committed to building on the strong foundations of Darkinjung, with a focus on governance, cultural integrity, protecting community interests and delivering positive outcomes for members and future generations.
The Board remains committed to advancing the rights, aspirations and self-determination of the Darkinjung community.

Please note the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council office will be closed today as staff and board members will be attending the protest in Sydney opposing proposed changes to the Crown Land Management Bill that may impact Aboriginal land rights.

✅ The office will reopen tomorrow, 8:30am - 4:30pm business as usual.
