Barang Regional Alliance Ltd (Barang) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

We operate as a unified voice to support the empowerment of the Aboriginal community living on Darkinjung land, on the Central Coast of NSW. Barang, meaning ‘tomorrow’ in Darkinung language, is the name of our backbone organisation for Empowered Communities and NSW Local Decision Making on the Central Coast. Working together with governments, with our community, with all stakeholders, with one voice, we will create a strong, empowered future that will generate economic prosperity for all community members.

Celebrating NSW Aboriginal Languages Week 2026 🖤💛❤️

Gorokan Public School students learning, connecting and celebrating our languages, culture and Country!

From counting in Darkinung language to learning about Aboriginal English, caring for Country and celebrating through dance, these experiences help build understanding, respect and stronger connections to culture.

A special shout-out to our Barang team members, Mandy and Leisa, for sharing language knowledge and helping create these meaningful learning experiences for the next generation.

yagunda baranggu present in Melbourne!

Melbourne might have been raining and chilly, and even had an earthquake but yagunda baranggu were on fire!
What an incredible opportunity for Mandy, Leisa & Katie to take the yagunda baranggu story to the stage at The National Early Childhood Australia Conference and share the work, the passion and the purpose behind what they do.
The team shared their knowledge and their heart behind their work, the attendees shared their thoughts. Here’s what some of them had to say.

Our CEO, Vickie Parry, had the opportunity to join Jawun’s 25th Anniversary Conversation Series in Melbourne last week.

A special thank you to NAB for so generously hosting and creating space for people to come together, reconnect, yarn, share stories and strengthen the relationships that have grown over many years.

For us, relationships are at the heart of this work. They are built through trust, showing up for one another and creating space for First Nations voices, leadership and lived experience to shape the conversations that matter.

A heartfelt thank you to SoFL’s Advisory Council Co-Chair, Fiona Jose, for sharing such a powerful keynote on the women of Cape York - the strength and leadership they show every day in their families and communities, and their ongoing fight for safer homes, better schools, real jobs and brighter futures for their children.

It was a deadly way to mark 25 years of Jawun - celebrating not just the work, but the people, relationships and connections that sit at the heart of the journey.

Here’s to continuing to walk together, learn from one another and strengthen the work for generations to come.

ANOTHER DEADLY DAY OF LANGUAGE LEARNING!

What a great day of sharing, learning and connecting through Darkinyung language!

We welcomed educators from schools, early learning centres, the Department of Education and Catholic schools for another deadly language session.

A room full of people coming together to learn, yarn, have a laugh and build confidence in using language with the children they work alongside.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who came along, joined in and continues to walk this language journey with us!

What a DEADLY morning filled with mixed emotions!

After getting to know our beautiful Little Deadlies over the past 9 weeks, it certainly won’t be the same not seeing their smiling faces each week!

We finished our Mingaletta Little Deadlies adventure with a very special morning. Mandy read another of her favourites ~ “Mum’s Elephant”, which inspired us to get creative and make our very own teapots and cups using modelling clay.

We then had lots of fun with rhyming bingo with Katie, before finishing our morning on a very high note… with a HIGH TEA!

Our gudjagang had a beautiful time together and were so excited to receive their special gifts — a Little Deadlies backpack and lunchbox, along with a couple of extra surprises to take home.

Nine weeks of learning, creating, laughing, building confidence and making special memories together. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our Little Deadlies!

A huge thank you to our families for being part of the program and supporting your little ones along the way. We have loved sharing this journey with you!

And now… we’re off to Tuggerah for Term 4!

Children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) often experience complex and interconnected support needs. Experiences of adversity and trauma can impact emotional regulation, relationships, mental health and behaviours of concern, highlighting the importance of trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to behaviour support.

This research was undertaken in collaboration with Barang Regional Alliance, Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Services and Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi Aboriginal Corporation on Darkinjung Country, recognising the importance of Aboriginal knowledge, perspectives and priorities in research that impacts Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities.

With Aboriginal children and young people disproportionately represented in OOHC, it is particularly important that research is undertaken with our communities, rather than about or to us.

For Barang, meaningful collaboration is about ensuring community voices are part of the conversation - from the research process through to how findings are understood and applied in practice.

We’re proud to support partnerships that strengthen Aboriginal participation, knowledge and governance in research and contribute to better outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people on Darkinjung Country.

What a deadly night at the Darkinjung NAIDOC Ball on Saturday night, held in Gosford!

Our Barang team had a deadly night coming together to celebrate 50 Years of Deadly.

It’s always important for us to show up and support our opt-in organisations and community to celebrate NAIDOC and everything that makes our mob so strong.

Plenty of yarns, laughs, dancing and good vibes - a deadly night all round!

Thank you to the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council for putting on such a great night and bringing community together. 🖤💛❤️
