Could Your Home Care Package Help You Access Remedial Massage?

At Malex Care, we believe wellbeing is about more than just day-to-day support. It’s about helping people live comfortably, maintain independence, and enjoy the best quality of life possible.

That’s why we’re excited to be working alongside Relax Heal Refuel Massage Therapy and Trilogy Care.

For some Home Care Package recipients, remedial massage may be considered as part of their overall care and wellbeing goals. Benefits may include:

✔ Reduced muscle tension and pain
✔ Improved mobility and flexibility
✔ Better circulation
✔ Reduced stress and anxiety
✔ Enhanced overall wellbeing

As a partner of Trilogy Care, Malex Care can help you explore whether remedial massage may be suitable within your Home Care Package.

Every package is different, so we’d love to have a conversation about your individual needs and goals.

Yesterday morning I had the privilege of joining Liliana and Rosalie on Radio Italia 531AM to discuss an issue that affects thousands of South Australians every day: social isolation.

With South Australia’s population now exceeding 1.9 million people, many individuals still experience loneliness and a lack of meaningful social connection.

Research shows that social isolation is associated with:

💔 Increased risk of depression and anxiety
🧠 Higher risk of dementia and cognitive decline
❤️ Increased risk of heart disease and stroke
⚠️ Reduced overall wellbeing and quality of life

At Malex Care, this is why we continue to invest in community programs such as:
🍝 Cucina D’Angela
☕ Social Club
🎨 Arts & Crafts
🧵 Sewing Group

These programs aren’t just activities.

They create friendships.
They build confidence.
They help people feel seen, valued and connected.

A heartfelt thank you to Liliana and Rosalie for providing a platform to discuss such an important topic.

Stay tuned for the interview link and some exciting fundraiser announcements coming soon.

Social Connection Group – Mt Gambier Adventure, Saturday 30 May – Sunday 31 May 2026

Day 1

Our Social Connection Group set off bright and early from Adelaide, excited for a weekend adventure to Mt Gambier. The journey was filled with great conversation, plenty of laughter, and the joy of spending quality time together.

Our first stop was Coonalpyn, where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast before continuing our scenic drive through the South East. Along the way, we explored the coastal towns of Kingston SE and Robe, taking in the beautiful views and local attractions.

Upon arriving in Mt Gambier, we visited the breathtaking Blue Lake, where everyone was amazed by its natural beauty and vibrant colours.

To conclude a wonderful day, we gathered for a delicious dinner together. The evening was filled with shared stories, endless laughter, and meaningful connections. It was a fantastic day of friendship, fun, and unforgettable memories.

Day 2

Our adventure continued on Sunday with a visit to the beautiful Umpherston Sinkhole. Surrounded by stunning gardens and unique natural scenery, it was a wonderful way to start the day.

We then travelled to Stick Tomato Cave in Naracoorte, where the group enjoyed exploring another remarkable natural attraction of the Limestone Coast region. On our journey home, we stopped in Keith for lunch, giving everyone the opportunity to relax, reflect on the weekend, and enjoy one final meal together.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Leakhena Meng-Y for generously taking time off work to drive the group throughout the weekend. Your kindness, patience, and dedication made this trip possible.

We would also like to extend a very special thank you to Aunty Kim for bringing the group together and helping to organise this wonderful getaway. Your efforts ensured a smooth, enjoyable, and memorable experience for everyone involved.

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Everyone shared how much fun they had, how much laughter was shared, and how meaningful it was to spend time together. This trip was a wonderful reminder of the importance of friendship, community connections, and creating lasting memories together. ❤️😊🌟

This program is a collaboration between Malex Care Inc and Cambodian Association of South Australia.

Our wonderful participants embarked on learning a new life skill—sewing. Using pre-loved fabric, they created practical and sustainable door stops while developing their sewing skills and creativity.

During the session, Tony demonstrated great enthusiasm and productivity, successfully making three door stops.

📣 Fundraiser Update 📣

Due to recent illness, some much-needed personal time off, the upcoming public holiday period, and lower ticket sales than anticipated, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming fundraiser and reschedule it for a later date.

While this is disappointing, we genuinely feel this is the best decision and will allow us to come back stronger and create the amazing community event that everyone deserves 💛

This fundraiser remains incredibly important to us, as it supports our community programs focused on reducing social isolation, building connection, and supporting wellbeing within the community.

For anyone who has already purchased tickets, refunds will be processed through Eventbrite while we work through confirming a new date and future arrangements.

We will also be reaching out personally to everyone who has generously donated or supported the fundraiser so far.

We sincerely thank everyone for their understanding, kindness, and ongoing support of Malex Care and our community projects. We look forward to sharing a new date with everyone very soon 😊

Cheers,
Alex & Mak

Our Art & Craft Group on Monday 25/5/26 was filled with creativity, laughter, and great company! 🎨✨ It was a wonderful chance to catch up, share ideas, and enjoy some creative time together.

Tony proudly made another beautiful card for his mum ❤️, while I took the opportunity to create a handy bowl protector. There were plenty of laughs along the way, making it a fun and relaxing session for everyone!

A big shout out to Helen, Jenny, and Shelly for bringing such positive energy, support, and smiles to the group — you all helped make the day extra special! 🌟

Our next session is on Monday 22nd June 2026 1000-1230. Come join us.

Today at Cucina D’Angela, we took a little detour from Italy… 🇰🇭❤️🍛
And what a beautiful day it was.

Our community came together to learn how to make authentic Cambodian red curry - sharing stories, laughter, culture and of course… amazing food.

A very special thank you to Bassac Foods for generously sponsoring today’s session and for the kindness and support shown to our community. Your generosity helped make today possible, and we are truly grateful. 🙏

At Malex Care, Cucina D’Angela has always been about more than cooking. It’s about bringing people together, reducing social isolation, celebrating culture, and creating moments of connection around the table - no matter where in the world the recipe comes from.

Today was filled with warmth, smiles, and full bellies… and our hearts are very full too. ❤️

💛 Social Isolation Is Becoming One of South Australia’s Biggest Hidden Health Concerns 💛

At Malex Care, one of the biggest things we are seeing across our community is loneliness and social isolation — and it is affecting people of all ages, not just older South Australians.

Recent South Australian data released by Uniting Communities found that:
• 57% of South Australians report experiencing loneliness sometimes or often
• Young adults aged 18–24 and adults aged 55–59 reported some of the highest levels of loneliness
• 91% of young adults aged 18–24 reported experiencing loneliness at least sometimes ()

Nationally, around 1 in 6 Australians report often feeling lonely, with social isolation now recognised as a significant public health concern. ()

What many people do not realise is that loneliness is not just emotional — it can significantly impact physical and mental health too.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, social isolation has been linked to:
🌿 Depression and anxiety
🌿 Emotional distress
🌿 Increased risk of dementia and cognitive decline
🌿 Poor sleep and reduced physical health
🌿 Higher stress levels and poorer wellbeing
🌿 Increased risk of premature death ()

Sometimes loneliness happens quietly.

A young person may feel disconnected despite being surrounded by social media and technology.
An older person may go days without meaningful conversation.
A carer may feel emotionally exhausted and unsupported.
A person living with disability may struggle to find genuine social connection beyond “services.”

This is one of the reasons why Malex Care was created.

As a small Adelaide-based charity founded from lived experience, we wanted to create more than just supports — we wanted to create connection, belonging, community, and safe spaces where people feel seen and valued.

Some of our community-focused projects include:
🍝 Cucina D’Angela — our community cooking program honouring my late Mum and bringing people together through food, culture, and conversation. (Saturday the 23rd of May)
🎨 Arts, crafts and creative groups (Monday the 25th of May)
🧵 Community sewing projects (Saturday the 23rd of May)
💪 Weekly fitness and wellbeing activities (every Thursday)
🫶 Social connection groups focused on reducing isolation and building friendships (commencing Wednesday the 27th of May)
🧠 Standard Mental Health First Aid training to strengthen understanding and support within our communities (on a needs basis).
🕺 Our fundraiser on the 6th of June 3 course meal and dancing to help these activities going. .

At the end of the day, human connection matters.

Sometimes the smallest things - a coffee, a conversation, cooking together, laughter, movement, or simply feeling included, can make a huge difference in someone’s life.

If you or someone you know may benefit from connection, community, or simply a safe and welcoming environment, please know you are never alone 💛
