🌲 Forestry – it’s more than just growing trees! 🌱

It’s about the people, the communities, and the opportunity to build our state. 💚🏡

South Australia is proudly the birthplace of the nation's commercial forestry plantations - starting 150 years ago!

🌳 That legacy continues today as an industry that grows tiny seedlings into structural timber frames, producing essential wood fibre products needed in our every day life, whilst also leading the change on climate action.

At , we’re proud to shine a light on the individuals behind the scenes – the people who make the forest and timber industries what they are today: authentic, purposeful, and future-focused.

We are South Australia's forest industries.

After 1,312 days with SAFPA, we’re saying farewell to our Communications Advisor, Haley Welch – and what a contribution she has made.

Haley has been pivotal in driving our communications and marketing; from a gala dinner celebrating 150 years of plantation forestry in South Australia, to navigating both a federal and state election, delivering the This is Wood Work campaign, and shaping how we tell the story of South Australia’s forest industries. She’s been at the centre of it all.

Over that time, she’s driven an extraordinary body of work (likely hundreds of press releases and thousands of media hits), but more importantly, she’s reshaped how our industry is understood. Through her work, the story of forestry has been told with clarity, purpose and impact, bringing its importance into sharp focus for government, stakeholders and the broader community.

Haley hasn’t just communicated the industry – she’s grown how it is seen by the community and our State’s decision-makers.

While she’s been firmly rooted in growing South Australia’s forest industries, her future now lies in the stars with space industries.

Thank you, Haley, for your commitment, professionalism and everything you’ve given to SAFPA.

You’ll be missed, and on behalf of the Governing Council and all the members, we wish you every success in what comes next.

🌏This Earth Day, we’re reminded that sustainability matters.

It’s not just an idea, it’s a commitment in action. 🌲And forestry is heavily committed to sustainability.

Across South Australia, our forest managers are doing more than growing timber to build homes, they’re nurturing ecosystems.

Over 40,000 hectares of high value native habitats of flora and fauna are protected, contributing to the overall health and vitality of forest ecosystems.

Through responsible forestry, native ecosystems are not only maintained but strengthened, ensuring these precious environments continue to flourish for generations to come.

Here’s to a future where industry and nature grow side by side!

SAFPA congratulates and welcomes the new South Australian Cabinet 👏

A special shoutout to Clare Scriven MLC on her reappointment as Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development and Minister for Forest Industries 🌱🌲

This marks an exciting new chapter for SA’s forest and timber industries, as we work with a new Cabinet to drive industry growth, strengthen regional communities, and deliver sustainable, long-term outcomes.

Minister Scriven has been a strong advocate for our sector, delivering over $20 million in support, including:
âś… $16M Forestry Centre of Excellence
✅$2.346M for Australia’s largest AI fire camera network
âś…$2M toward the SA Timber & Wood Fibre Master Plan (which has been extended into 2026)

With 17,000 new homes and new technical colleges on the horizon, SAFPA are committed to ensuring timber plays a key role in building South Australia’s future 🏡

We look forward to working closely with the Cabinet to protect and grow our sovereign timber capability and deliver real outcomes for our industry and community.

🌲🌲International Day of Forests 2026 🌲🌲

Forestry drives economic prosperity and is the engine room of our regional economies.

In South Australia, the forest and timber industries generate almost $3 billion to the state economy and support more than 21,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly.

From Bundaleer to the Mount Lofty Ranges to Mount Gambier, our forest industries sustain townships, connect commodity groups, support small businesses, and help build thriving communities.

This International Day of Forests, take a moment to recognise the vital role forestry and wood fibre play in our everyday lives.

From timber frames to build houses, to wooden pallets transporting consumer goods from manufacturer to shopfront, to the pulp products found in every bathroom, to the wooden posts used in agricultural industries, to even the mulch growing our vegetables. Forestry and wood products are at the core to everyday living.

Forestry is helping build South Australia. To secure our future fibre supply, we must grow more trees and expand local timber manufacturing to create more jobs, strengthen communities, and drive economic value.

SAFPA is proud to share the success of our recent Candidates Forums.

Over the past week, SAFPA hosted two successful forums in the seats of MacKillop and Mount Gambier, bringing together forest industry stakeholders, local government representatives, business leaders, and members of the community.

Our aim was to create an engaging and informative space where candidates could discuss their policy initiatives that matter most to the region.

It was encouraging to see such strong participation and a genuine commitment to open dialogue across the forums. Events like these strengthen our democracy by giving voters the opportunity to hear directly from candidates, compare ideas, and make informed decisions.

Thank you to everyone who attended, submitted questions, and helped create a positive and constructive atmosphere.

And a special thank you to the candidates who have put themselves forward to represent their communities in State Parliament.
