DG visits Torquay. President Ross Yapp welcomed District Governor Maria Baade at our monthly meeting. Allen Osman was Tailtwister and Maria gave an interesting and thoughtful address.

Lions Village still going strong. Yesterday, the Annual General Meeting of Lions Village Torquay Inc. was held at the Village Centre. Present were the members of the Management Committee, the Residents, and Honorary members of Lions Village Torquay Inc. We were pleased to welcome Brian Fuller, Honorary Member, who was one of the key people involved in the late 1990’s when the project was initiated. Also present were guests: Mayor Libby Stapleton and Cr Joel Grist. Lions Village Torquay is a not-for-profit project initiated by the Lions Club of Torquay. It is a small, friendly community in beautiful Torquay where residents can enjoy the freedom of independent living. The Chair of the Management Committee, Bill Ferguson presided over the AGM. The Chair also awarded Honorary Membership of the Village to Lion Brian Keane and Lion Colin Bellis in recognition of meritorious service to the Association.
Amendments to the Retirement Villages Act came into force on 1 May, so the need for a wide range of experience and expertise on the Committee was greater than ever. Despite the large number of regulations, we have managed to work through the process while keeping the vision of allowing residents to enjoy more of what matters; Lifestyle, connection and peace of mind.

Sunny with a light breeze. After last month’s cancellation, Torquay Cowrie Market should be great this Sunday with a perfect day forecast. Over winter, our friends at Mt Duneed Men's Shed have been renovating our popular Lions Train, with many new safety features. The engine and carriages are named after Lions members, Bob Brownlee and Tom Harding, who set up the the train many years ago. Also, we have a new canopy for the hot sunny days ahead. The sausage sizzle BBQ will be there as usual. See you there!
At the Lions Shed, we went through the procedures to set up and pack up the train and the canopy. Pictured is Lion Ross Yapp, who as well as being President of the Lions Club, is also a Men's Shed member. He was joined by Lions Club members.

Last night’s meat tray raffle at Torquay Hotel was won by some very happy folks from Mt Duneed. You've got to be in it to win it. Around 6 pm every Friday night.

Grand Final lunch/dinner done! Every Friday night at Torquay Hotel we raffle a meat tray. Whether it’s the Lions or the Dockers today, someone is set for a feast. Meat tray is from Surf Coast Quality Meats. Lion Helen is with the lucky winner. Cheers!

After the crash. Jules Haddock Art of the Minds presented about the Amber Community. Their goal is to assist with managing the impact of road trauma. We also heard from trauma survivor Bernie. She now speaks to drivers about being aware of their driving habits and the ripple effects of serious accidents. Pictured L to R are Jules, Lion President Ross and Bernie. Lion Brian introduced Jules.

Lion Allen Osman taking Lions Village Torquay Residents for a trip to Colac and Red Rock. And on such a beautiful day.

Sorry to let you know, unfortunately Torquay Cowrie Market has been cancelled due to wind. Such a shame as we have finally said goodbye to winter and the last few days have been warm and sunny.

Train transformation. The Lion’s Train has had a makeover. We have taken thousands of kids (and parents) for rides over the last 20 odd years. But it was time for a full service and refit. Over winter, our friends at Mt Duneed Men's Shed have stripped it back, redesigned it and rebuilt it. The first Torquay Cowrie Market will be held this Sunday, and the renovated and freshly painted train will be there. We hope the second carriage will be finished, but it will be tight! A huge thank you to the Men’s Shed. And, the 250th passenger this Sunday will win a prize!
