Better prepared. What happens if there is an emergency in our local area? Emergency Services will be there but what about the community response in the aftermath? At our monthly Dinner Meeting, we were joined by Rod Brooks, who with Lion Colin Bellis, is on a planning committee to consider how we should be better prepared. Pictured are Rod and Colin, also pictured are Rod and Lion Gordon Clarence who thanked Rod for his thought provoking talk.

What an awesome night!

A huge thanks to all the Sharks players and our community for buying tickets and coming along to our inaugural South Coast Sharks Reverse Raffle!
The event was officially a sellout!

A big congratulations to Hillsy who won the reverse raffle but true to the Sharks culture, the final 3 prize winners - Hillsy, Nath Bones and Stewie took the path of dividing the prize pool amongst the three of them to all walk away winners! Legends!

Speaking of winners, I’m sure we all agree that those attending last night were all winners with the awesome atmosphere at Flowstate, great crew at the event and the amazing tunes by Benny Hynes with several cameo appearances by the Sharks boys, particularly Scans, mate what a star!⭐️

Any great event needs some strong support so a few thankyous are required:
Flowstate Brewers and Distillers for hosting us at their brilliant venue and serving up their drinks and cocktails!
The Torquay Lions Club for looking after our BBQ dinner for us and bringing their trailer!
Feed Me Surf Coast for the delicious finger food and cheese platters, salads and dessert - so good!
Great Ocean Road Brewing for our Sharks b**r, great brews lads!
Surfcoast Quality Meats for supplying us with all our
meat for the BBQ!

Lastly, all the fellas that helped out leading up to the event and on the night to make it such an awesome success!

Last night was a great reminder of just what a special community we’ve created at the South Coast Sharks AFL Masters team, not just on the field but the friendships and community off the field also.

So good legends!

Sharks and Lions. We helped the South Coast Sharks Masters AFL FC celebrate their inaugural South Coast Sharks Reverse Raffle, held at Flow State Brewers and Distillers. We fired up our BBQ. Feed Me Surf Coast provided delicious finger food and cheese platters, salads and dessert. We helped feed the hungry sharks. Surf Coast Quality Meats, who do our Friday night meat tray to be raffled at the hotel also provided the meat. Lion Allen improvised as the sun set with his miner’s torch. A great night was had by all.

Helping at Bellbrae Cemetery Trust. Once a month, a team of Lions mow the lawns, whipper snipper the edges and control the weeds (L to R, Allen, John and Neil). It is a beautiful and serene location.

We remember and farewell John Peck. A man who gave many years of his life to his family, his community and to the Lions Club of Torquay. John became a Lion in September 1985, and for the next 35 years he was an integral part of our Club. He served as Vice President, President, Secretary and Treasurer. He was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship in 2010 (the highest individual honour that Lions can bestow). He retired from Lions in June 2020, but his contribution over those many years left a lasting mark.
When asked why do you remain a Lion? John would say:
It's not for money.
It's not for fame.
It's not for any personal gain.
It's just for love of fellow man,
It's just to lend a helping hand.
That's something you can't buy with wealth.
It's not medals worn with pride.
It's for the feeling deep inside.
It's that reward down in your heart,
It's feeling that you've been a part of helping others.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW TRUST MEMBER!

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Barry Plant as our newest Trust Member.

Barry brings a deep connection to our local community, having raised his family in Jan Juc and spending years teaching in Geelong and the Surf Coast.

Although Barry’s appointment was only recently made official by the Department of Health, he has already jumped right in - participating in our Induction Program, assisting with interments and sales, and rolling up his sleeves at our recent working bees.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Barry, and if you see him around the cemetery, be sure to say G’day! Here he is (centre) at our recent working bee.
