International Day for Rural Women

Country women in rural areas are responsible for half of the world’s food production while working as environmental and biodiversity stewards. This International Day for Rural Women, the Queensland Country Women’s Association acknowledges the many girls and women who live, work and love in rural communities.

Today we honour their commitment to community, their passion for caring through craft and cooking, their resilience and strength in the face of disaster, and their leadership and dedication to support diversity and tradition. They are volunteers, mentors, leaders, custodians and carers. Please join us in honouring those women who are the backbone of our families, our towns, our Government, and our industries.

* Rural women have key roles in ensuring food production, security and nutrition for communities in both rural and urban areas.
* Rural women play a crucial role in conserving and cultivating biodiversity. They are custodians of natural resources and traditional knowledge.
* Rural women are central actors in rural health and care systems. Women globally make up 67% of the healthcare workforce and an estimated 70% of community healthcare workers.
* Rural women also have roles in other domains essential for health, such as water and sanitation services, zoonosis control, and occupational health, among others.

We’ve teamed up with Love Your Sister for a heartfelt knitting project, and we need your help! 🧶

Introducing our latest statewide QCWA Project, a creative way to support those impacted by cancer. We're calling on our wonderful members and branches to knit mismatched gloves using leftover wool scraps, no need to buy anything new!

Each unique pair will be shared with Love Your Sister’s Villagers to symbolise that every cancer journey is different. Once your branch has a collection ready, reply-paid satchels will be provided so they can be sent off with love (and a note about your branch!).

Let’s knit with purpose, passion, and community spirit.

📸 Don’t forget to share your glove creations – we’d love to see them in action!

Our Public Rural Crisis Fund is available to assist those affected by the recent floods and weather events.

Blackall CWA Flood Update
Thank you to so many for your messages offering support to our neighbours experiencing widespread flooding across Western Queensland. This enthusiasm to help others is one of the best things about rural women, and a big reason why the Country Women’s Assn. was formed.

For now, we are not calling for donations of food or baking - there is simply no way to coordinate distribution to so many rural families while roads are still damaged and the wet weather continues. This time will come later, and we hope you can support us when we put out the call.

🚨 Important Information 🚨
For groups fundraising and those looking to financially support those directly affected, the QCWA Public Rural Crisis Fund is already distributing one-off payments to households impacted by the floods. This fund was established in 1990 and is managed on a State-level with 100% of donations going to support rural communities facing natural disasters. No administration fees or other red tape get in the way of your donation getting to those who need it.

We strongly encourage anyone affected by the floods to apply for financial support of up to $1000 by visiting the QCWA website today 👉🏼 https://www.qcwa.org.au/Public-Rural-Crisis-Fund
Alternatively, please contact the QCWA State Office by email to [email protected] to get involved.

And if you are interested in joining your local CWA, we welcome you! Get in touch via email for more information [email protected]
