🌸 QCWA Kitchen | Hot Cross Bun Recipe 🌸
There’s something truly special about the smell of freshly baked hot cross buns drifting through the kitchen… a tradition shared across generations, bringing family and friends together at Easter time. 💛
This Easter, we invite you to slow down, roll up your sleeves, and enjoy a little baking from the heart with this classic favourite.
✨ QCWA Hot Cross Buns Recipe
Ingredients:
• 4 cups plain flour
• 2 tsp mixed spice
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• ¼ cup sugar
• 1 sachet (7g) dried yeast
• 1 ½ cups warm milk
• 60g butter, melted
• 1 egg
• 1 cup mixed dried fruit
• Zest of 1 orange (optional)
For the crosses:
• ½ cup plain flour + water to make a paste
For the glaze:
• 2 tbsp apricot jam + 1 tbsp water
Method:
Combine flour, spices, sugar and yeast in a large bowl.
Add warm milk, melted butter and egg. Mix to form a soft dough.
Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Add dried fruit and knead through.
Cover and leave in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Divide into 12 buns, place on a lined tray, and allow to rise again for 30 minutes.
Pipe crosses over the buns.
Bake at 180°C for 20–25 minutes until golden.
Brush with warm glaze while still hot.
Serve warm with butter… and a good cup of tea. ☕💕
