One of the most common questions twin parents get is: “Are they identical?” 😂

And here’s where it gets interesting… being MCDA or DCDA doesn’t automatically tell you whether twins are identical or fraternal. While MCDA twins are almost always identical, DCDA twins can be either identical or fraternal.

Throwing it back to earlier this year when our SSMBA families came together for the Colour Run to celebrate Multiple Birth Awareness Week! 👯‍♀️👯‍♂️🎉

There was plenty of colour, plenty of fun and, of course, plenty of multiples! 🌈

Events like this are such a wonderful way to celebrate Multiple Birth Awareness Week — bringing families together, raising awareness of the unique experiences of multiple-birth families and celebrating the incredible journey of raising multiples.

✨ A HUGE SSMBA THANK YOU TO LITTLE & CO✨

We’d like to give a very special thank you to Little & Co for generously donating a Twin Mum hat and a Twin Dad hat to our upcoming new parents lunch.

Little & Co is particularly special to us because the owner knows firsthand what it’s like to raise multiples because she is a parent of two sets of twins! 👯‍♀️

That personal understanding of the joys, challenges and beautiful chaos that comes with raising multiples makes their support of SSMBA even more meaningful.

These gorgeous hats will be a lovely gift for one of our new families and we’re so grateful for the generosity and thought behind the donation. 🌈✨

We’re excited to invite SSMBA families to join us for a special Father’s Day Family Event on Saturday 26 September! 🎉

It’s a chance to get together, celebrate the dads and father figures in our multiples community, and enjoy some quality time with other SSMBA families.

Whether you’re a dad, stepdad, grandad, uncle or another special persons in your family’s life, we’d love to celebrate you! Dads have a chance to win some great prizes too!

💕A HUGE SSMBA THANK YOU TO TADA KIDS CAFE! 💕

We’d like to say a huge thank you to TADA Kids Cafe at Oran Park Podium for their incredibly generous donation of 20 gift cards for our upcoming New Parents Lunch! 🎁✨

These gift cards will help us make the day extra special for families who have welcomed multiples in the past 18 months, giving them the opportunity to enjoy some fun and quality time together. 👯‍♀️👯‍♂️💕

As a volunteer run association, we rely on the incredible generosity of local businesses to help us create memorable experiences for our families.

✨ MEET THE COMMITTEE — MICHAELA ✨

Meet Michaela! 💛 Michaela is our Grants, Fundraising & Social Media Manager, helping SSMBA connect with our community, secure funding and donations, and share all the wonderful things happening across the association.

Michaela is a mum to 3.5 year old fraternal twin girls 👯‍♀️ and has been involved with SSMBA for some time, previously volunteering and helping out wherever she could at SSMBA events.

Through her professional experience supporting children and families over the past 12 years, Michaela is passionate about helping parents feel safe, supported and seen. 💛 She is also more than happy for SSMBA families to reach out if they are looking for information about support services available across South West Sydney.

✨ FUN FACT: Twins definitely run in Michaela’s family! Her girls aren’t the first set of twins on the maternal side — there are several other sets of twins throughout the family, including her own male cousins who are twins! 👯‍♂️👯‍♀️

Michaela is excited to be part of the SSMBA committee and looks forward to helping create a community where families of multiples feel connected, supported and never alone. 🫶

💛 And with that, our Meet the Committee series is complete! A huge thank you to everyone who has followed along and gotten to know the wonderful volunteers behind SSMBA. We’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated committee working behind the scenes to support our multiples community. 👯‍♀️👯‍♂️
