Royal Far West

Royal Far West Royal Far West is an Australian charity dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of country children.

Established in 1924, Royal Far West is one of Australia’s most enduring and respected charities dedicated to connecting kids in rural and remote communities to the care they need. We offer health, education and disability services for country children and their families at the Centre for Country Kids in Manly, virtually via Telecare, and in local communities. Right now, 190,000 children across rur

al and remote Australia have health and developmental needs that can’t be met because of where they live. Royal Far West’s 95+ paediatric clinicians support country kids aged up to 12 with speech and language delays; behavioural and conduct disorders; early life trauma and mental illness; autism, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorders.

12,046 families, educators and health professionals received support last year and the need for services is growing. Find out more at www.royalfarwest.org.au/

Our team recently visited Bourke as part of our ongoing partnership with Bourke and District Children’s Service, delivering vital support to help children thrive.

From screening new children to reconnecting with existing clients face-to-face and working alongside educators in the classroom, this visit was all about strengthening skills, connections and outcomes.

With a blended model of in-community visits and telehealth, we’re ensuring country children can access the care they need – no matter where they live.

A big thank you to Minderoo Foundation for its continued support 💙

What started as a concern about speech development has become an inspiring story of resilience, growth, and confidence.

For the Gibbon's family in Parkes, accessing support wasn’t easy – but they refused to let distance define their son Finley’s future.

With the help of Royal Far West, Finley received tailored speech therapy that transformed his ability to communicate. Today, he’s not only found his voice – he’s using it to shine, winning a local public speaking competition two years in a row.

When the Ride for Country Kids recently came through their hometown, Finley and his family were invited to share their story – and what followed was a truly special moment. Standing in front of a room of 100 people, Finley spoke with confidence and pride about his journey.

Finley’s story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of early intervention and accessible support for regional families.

💙 Because every child deserves the chance to find their voice.

Congratulations to Professor Elizabeth Elliott AO FRSN FAHMS

Royal Far West warmly congratulates Distinguished Professor Elizabeth Elliott AO FRSN FAHMS, Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney and Consultant Paediatrician at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, on being appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours.

She has been recognised for her distinguished service to paediatric medicine, to women’s health, and to medical and social understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Royal Far West has been on the ground in regional Victoria, working closely with schools in the Wimmera Southern Mallee region - in Birchip, Rainbow, Hopetoun, Beulah and Jeparit - to support student health and wellbeing 💙

Our team spent time in classrooms, meeting with families and teachers, and delivering hands-on support and assessments – building strong connections along the way.

We’re proud to be growing our partnerships in Victoria and helping make care more accessible for rural students.

Families in rural and remote communities shouldn’t have to wait years for answers about their child’s development.

But too often, they do.

Seven-year-old Riley is one of those children.

Bright, creative and curious, Riley loves maths, drawing and gaming. But from a young age, she also experienced delays in walking and speech, sensory sensitivities, and challenges with emotional regulation.

Her mum, Shellie, knew she needed help – long before support was available.

Like many country families, she faced limited local services, unclear referrals, and long gaps between appointments. Each step forward required persistence, advocacy, and resilience.

That changed when Riley was seen at Royal Far West’s in-community clinic in Dubbo.

For the first time, she was supported by a full multidisciplinary team – working together to understand her needs and provide clear, coordinated care.

💛 This is what timely, connected support can look like. But too many families are still waiting.

Before 30 June, help us go beyond so more children like Riley can access the care they need, closer to home.

Donate today.

300km. Three days. One shared purpose 💙

This year’s Ride for Country Kids brought together an incredible community, all riding to make a real difference for children in rural and remote Australia.

Thanks to your support, we’ve raised over $430,000 and counting! The Ride may be over, but the impact continues, and fundraising remains open until June 30.

In May our team returned to Wilcannia 💙

Speech Pathologist Rachel and Occupational Therapist Caitlyn spent the week reconnecting with students, families and teachers at Wilcannia Central School – strengthening a partnership that’s now in its third year.

From working with families receiving regular telehealth support, to sharing strategies in the classroom and learning from local community members, it was a week full of connection, collaboration and growth.

Access to allied health services can be challenging in regional and remote areas, but through these visits – combined with ongoing telehealth support – we’re helping ensure country kids get the care they need, wherever they are.

We’re so proud to be working alongside this incredible community 💙
