Big news for regional skills and the clean energy transition!

The NSW Government is backing the Group Training Organisation (GTO) model with a $1.5 million pilot program in the Central-West Orana REZ! Delivered by Skillset in partnership with and the NSW Department of Education, this pilot demonstrates the critical role GTOs play in building a skilled workforce.
Key Highlights:
✅ Flexible placement models allowing host employers to engage apprentices for project-specific durations.
✅ Seamless rotation of apprentices between projects so training is never interrupted.
✅ Free pre-employment pathways to get candidates site-ready fast.
✅ A repeatable framework designed to roll out across all future NSW Renewable Energy Zones. GTOs are leading the way in training the next generation of tradies and sparkies to power the energy transition.

AEN Member Good News Story - Apprenticeships Are Us Drives Innovation with "Maverick"

We love highlighting the creative ways our network is inspiring the next generation of skilled workers. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on a fantastic project underway at Apprenticeships Are Us!

Meet Maverick
He’s already turning heads, but this is just the beginning. Over the coming months, Maverick is being transformed from a classic car into a dynamic travelling ambassador for automotive careers.

Brought to life with the hands-on support of dedicated apprentices, host employers, and industry partners, Maverick will soon hit the road—heading to career expos, school visits, and industry events.

Why It Matters
Project Maverick isn't just about restoring a classic car—it’s a rolling showcase of the incredible opportunities in the automotive industry. Most importantly, it directly celebrates the skill, craftsmanship, and hard work of the apprentices turning this vision into reality.

Inspiring the Next Generation
This initiative is a textbook example of how hands-on training and strong industry partnerships can create a lasting impact while making vocational pathways exciting for young people.

A huge shoutout to the team at Apprenticeships Are Us and all the talented apprentices involved in this project. We can’t wait to see Maverick out on the road!

NAIDOC Week: Honouring our Indigenous AEN Members

As we reflect on the significance of NAIDOC Week, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible Indigenous-focused organisations that strengthen our AEN NSW ACT network. Their leadership and dedication to creating meaningful opportunities are vital to our collective success year-round.

Across the region, our members have been marking the occasion with tremendous energy and community spirit. From grassroots gatherings to collaborative workplace events, the dedication to honouring First Nations cultures has been inspiring to witness.

The photos featured below highlight just some of the brilliant celebrations hosted by our members this week. We extend our deepest thanks to every member for sharing their stories, fostering deep connections, and driving positive change within our communities.
