An Indian-origin tech professional who previously worked at Meta and TikTok built a custom GPT in under two hours to streamline his job search and eventually secured a position at PayPal.
After struggling to get interview calls despite applying to multiple roles over two months, the product manager decided to build his own Al assistant to personalize applications and improve recruiter outreach.
He explained that while ChatGPT provided generic answers and often lost context, a custom GPT, trained specifically on his résumé, Linkedin profile, and work experience, helped him automate tasks such as drafting recruiter messages, tailoring résumés, and preparing for interviews.
"| named it PM job search advisor. It helped me write personalized emails, find the right contacts, and even refine my résumé for specific roles," he said.
"Before interviews, it told me what to highlight and what questions to expect."
The Al-powered tool saved him hours of manual effort and played a key role in his successful job search. He also used it to help negotiate his PayPal offer.
"If I needed to find another job, l'd absolutely use it again," he said, adding that he plans to enhance his GPT with agentic capabilities that can autonomously apply for roles and answer application questions in the future.
