It's 60 years since 200 Aboriginal stockmen and their families, led by the immortal Vincent Lingiari, put down their tools, refused to work and walked off Wave Hill Station.

Students at Nature at Risk artshow!
So pleased to have students from Echuca Special School check out the threatened species at Alton Gallery Echuca this week.
Four of the boys in the group.picked out their favourite art work. Guess what a Squirrel Glider photo!. Not surprising really as the students have been learning about endangered and vulnerable species in.northern Victoria at the Strathallan Glider Sanctuary for the first two.semesters this year.

National Tree Day Planting
After a monthly Landcare meeting and tasty lunch at the Rochester Hotel a small but enthusiastic group celebrated this special day with a planting in parkland at Rochester.
The successful planting of endemic trees and shrubs was made possible thanks to.the generosity of the Shire of Campaspe and the Rochester Native Nursery.
President Ben (pictured) checked the stock before the planting and a nest box later for signs of squirrel gliders, only ants found.
After a foggy week, all were pleasantly surprised when the sun shone on the happy Landcarers.

A reminder and invitation to.join us at
National Tree Day planting on Sunday at 1.30 in the old calf sales paddock at Rochester. We have a good mix of local endemic trees, shrubs and grasses courtesy of the Campaspe Shire and Rochester Native Nursery, all ready to plant.
Of course there will.be a seletion of wattes loved by our local glider population.

Overseas visitors at Alton Gallery in Echuca

Luckily didn't need to rely on school girl French classes when two visitors from France checked out our Nature at Risk exhibition, they spoke perfect English. The pair who are on a working visa holiday from Bordueax were very interested in our photos and paintings of threatened species.
The display runs through August and September on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 1ish.

National Tree Day
Join us, as we celebrate and plant a tree or three in the old calf sales paddock in Rochester on Sunday afternoon at 1.30.
Our Landcare group will be having a meeting and enjoying lunch before the planting at the Rochester Hotel. Opposite the Post Office from 12noon. All welcome to attend.
Come on you lot do it for the planet. So plant a tree for National Tree Day and in 200 years it could look like this!

A thrill or two at Alton Gallery
Now at the end if its second week the Nature at Risk exhibition in Echuca, dedicated visitors are providing positive comments and artists are seeing sales!
Open Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 1pm. The gallery is providing a warm spot and the best viewing of a range of native animals, birds, plants all produced by talented locals.
Anne Paul was delighted when her marvellous Platypus painting was swiftly sold on the first day!
