Here’s another wonderful piece of Rochester football history – the program from the Rochester Football Club’s Annual Smoke Social and Presentation of Trophies, held on Friday, 12 October 1951.

The booklet is a fantastic snapshot of the club more than 75 years ago, recording the club officials, life members, players, season results and trophy winners.

Some familiar Rochester family names appear throughout the pages, and handwritten beside the awards are the names of the players who took home the honours that year. A. Rogers was named Best & Fairest, while the player list provides a great record of those who pulled on the Rochester jumper in 1951.

Even the Toast List is a little piece of history – beginning with “The King”, following the death of King George VI in 1952.

❤️🖤 A FAMILY WOVEN INTO ROCHESTER FOOTBALL HISTORY

The Knight family has an extraordinary connection to the Rochester Football Club, with generations giving their time and support both on and off the field.

This wonderful old newspaper clipping tells the story of the family being honoured for more than 60 years of involvement with the club, including multiple family members receiving Life Membership.

Today, that proud sporting legacy continues to be celebrated at the Rochester Sports Museum, where the Knight family story and memorabilia, is featured in our current Local Sporting Hero Showcase.

These are the stories our museum exists to preserve – not just sporting achievements, but the families and volunteers who helped build Rochester’s sporting clubs.

🏆 Haven’t seen the display yet? Don’t leave it too long! Our Local Sporting Hero Showcase changes throughout the year, so the Knight family display won’t be there forever.

🏉 FROM THE ARCHIVES – ROCHESTER FOOTBALL, 1951

Here’s another wonderful piece of Rochester sporting history – the Bendigo Football Guide from Saturday, 30 June 1951, featuring Golden Square v Rochester at Golden Square.

The guide lists the Rochester side in their traditional red and black, with plenty of familiar local surnames among the players.

Also featured is “Rochester Ripples”, the weekly club report. It gives us a fascinating glimpse into football life in 1951 – talking about the previous match, players being promoted from the Seconds, injuries, goal kickers, club volunteers and even an upcoming rabbit drive fundraiser!

🏉 A Piece of Rochester Football History – 1952

What a fantastic piece of local sporting history!

We recently came across this Rochester Football Club Annual Smoke Social and Presentation of Trophies booklet from 1952, held at the Rochester Shire Hall on Thursday, 9 October.

Inside is a wonderful snapshot of the club more than 70 years ago – listing the club officials, life members, players, trophy winners, goal kicking award and even the evening’s toast list.

Have a look through the photos and see how many familiar Rochester family names you recognise. You might even spot a parent, grandparent or relative! 👀

These small pieces of memorabilia are incredibly important in preserving the stories and people behind Rochester’s rich sporting history.

And stay tuned… we’ve also found the 1951 presentation booklet, which we’ll share another day! 🏆

🏐 Inspiring Rochester’s Next Generation

It was great to welcome around 20 students from the Rochester Secondary College Netball Program to the Rochester Sports Museum.

The students had the opportunity to explore the museum and be inspired by the incredible names, achievements and sporting memorabilia on display.

Who knows… perhaps one day we’ll be displaying their sporting achievements in the museum too! 🌟

🚗 A Magnificent Visit to Rochester!

A big thank you to the Golden Oldies Car Club for visiting the Rochester Sports Museum today!

Around 70 members enjoyed exploring the museum and spending some time discovering Rochester.

And what a sight outside! 🤩 A magnificent line-up of beautifully presented vintage vehicles certainly caught plenty of attention.

Thanks for including Rochester on your travels – we loved having you! 🏆🚙

💚 Making Our Museum More Accessible

A big thank you to the Shire of Campaspe for supporting the Rochester Sports Museum with funding to purchase 10 new visitor chairs for our theatre room.

Our new chairs are already getting the tick of approval from these lovely visitors from Kyabram Connect!

The supportive seating will make it easier and safer for older visitors and people with mobility challenges or disabilities to sit, stand and comfortably enjoy the museum’s documentaries. It also reduces the need for our volunteers to physically assist visitors.

It’s a simple improvement that makes a big difference to comfort, dignity, safety and inclusion.

Thank you, Shire of Campaspe, for helping us make the Rochester Sports Museum a more welcoming and accessible place for everyone. 💚
